FYI, I cared about all my Porsches equally. I would never treat one poorly for any reason

944 non-turbos are slow and ugly.

Don't waste your money modifying one to your own taste and needs, it will never spank a turbo ever, not even in the twisties or an autocross. Spending money on an "N/A" is much worse of an "investment" then spending money on a 951.

Please get into the same line of thought as the rest of the group and do not deviate. There will be no tollerance for that kind of behaviour here. Consider yourself warned.

yeh I like my N/A I would get mad if my door got a dent in it ( there goes my bondo free 944) I would drive and I could get more for it than >50% of the turbo's on this board mainly because there are no porsche near were I live closest place is calgary and thats 2 and a half hours away. I have got a few offers already 7000 to 8500 but I cept it because I have 900 dollars worth of parts coming in. Also the N/A has way less maintainance hmm I think we should be bashing turbos on this board theres a what 3 N/A's for every turbo? we could take them :P the darn un-reliable heat throwing pieces of *&%, JK I would love to have a 951 to bad there >14,000 in alberta

Perfectly worded!
The only n/a 944 I would ever buy is a '89-'91 S2 with.....................get ready, here it comes: a healthy dose of direct port NOS! Cause that's exactly what it would need to compete against most 951's that have simple bolt-ons, especially one of the Vitesse cars!

1) doesn't **** me off quite so much if it gets door dinged.
3) Ok if it gets left out overnight.
4) "sure, I'l let you drive it."
5) "Look like rain?" "Your right, lets take the 944."

everysingle one of those statements flagrantly foul mouths the NA and tries to belittle it because of the way in which he was reffering to it with his 951. i bet there are many na's on this board in MUCH better condition than his 951.
Condition? Here's my take:
I would much rather take a 951 with 200k miles on it that's been repainted 4 times, with cracks in the dash and windshield, instead of a 944 n/a 8v with 60k miles that's in excellent shape with original paint!

If you're gonna buy a Porsche, buy a real Porsche. If you can't afford a Porsche that has real "Porsche Performance" (outperforming stock minivans and ricers with fart cans), be patient and save up until you can.

It reminds me of a younger brother of a friend I grew up with..........he always said "when I turn 18, I'm getting a brand new Mercedes!"
Sure enough, he saved up since he was 14, and 4 years later he bought a brand new Mercedes C230K Sport Coupe, you know, that P O S entry level Mercedes hatchback that was supposed to compete with the VW GTI!
Sure, he spent all his $29k on a brand new Mercedes!
But what kind of Mercedes? An overpriced GTI wannabe!

I can sell my '95 993 C2 and buy at least 10 high mileage n/a 944's! Or 20 n/a 924's!

And then what? Tell everyone I own 10 or 20 Porsches? WOW! But what kind of Porsches???
I'm sorry, but if I only had $3000 to spend on a car, I would not buy a n/a 944.
Save up until you have at least $7000 and buy a 951. You will not regret it.

All 944s are slow even the 951s in comparison to other cars on the market.

So in otherwords buy what works best for you and be happy with it.

P.S. My 944 is slow

back to the comment on the NA running fine with up to 5# of boost on stock engine management, is this true? I might start looking for a cheap blower in the junkyards to play with.

IIRC, 5 pounds should not to any damage. I remember a black supercharged 944 (Jeremy?) on here who also had an "aquamister" kit and someone calculated that a stock 944 engine with 5 #s of boost only brings the relative compression ratio up to that of a 944 Turbo with stock boost. Make sense?

You should be fine with 5 (but I'm not a professional).

guys be honest... a stock 951 has less power than a modern stock honda accord 4 door...

I've only driven one 951 and it felt just like my 944na until the boost came on (because that's what it is.) It's a 944 + Turbo. No matter what you all say about the brakes, and little plastic peices and trans, it's still the same car. Danno even told me that the bigger brakes wont stop you faster, what they will do is work better/longer for track/racing. The transmission just has different gears to accomodate the turbo lag and a stronger 2nd because (even on the NA's) 2nd goes out. The na's ive seen have 951 stamped all over the suspension parts and all over the other parts so these cars are really the same thing.

Now the thing that you can do with a 951 is spend twice it's used price to make it have super car power. But you are still spending thousands of dollars to get this.

My take on this whole thing is that you have to spend thousands of dollars to make any car go really fast and handle really well. You can spend it on the na or the turbo, but in both cases you have to go past what the stock turbo is to get modern day performance. As far as looks go, in my opinion, the turbo has one of the best front bumpers and overall looks out of any car I've seen.

On another note most of us never race so who cares if you have 300rwhp?(besides all the fun, and adrenaline, and bragging rights, and testosterone, etc.)

OK, the mechanicals can handle it, that much I expect. What about the fuel mappings and such, will they accomadate the increased air which would be sensed the the AFM?
