Default Calling all aircraft mechanics on here....

OK, if any of you guys on here can help that work on smaller airplanes, I'm looking at some parts for a project. I'm looking for wastegates, butterfly style, not poppet style. If the pic I found was accurate, I beleive that I'm looking for a wastegate for a Cessna 421A,B or C or possibly a Merlyn(?) wastegate. Dunno, I was looking at airplane boneyards and the sites read like stereo instructions, lol. That and a rebuilt WG is like 1200 bucks. Any info or bad-used units or good units for that matter, let me know. I'd like to find one as cheap as possible due to the fact that I can't find enough info on these units to even see if they will fit or are usable. Dimenions, flow#s, operating pressures, anything. Thanks, Andy Kihm

I used to be an aircraft mech, but didn't mess with turboed stuff very much. My dad however as forgotten more about working on aircraft than most people will ever know, I'll ask him.

I do know that any parts related to the 421 series will be EXPENSIVE!!!!

I'll see if I can get you some specs from Cooper Aviation when I'm in Chicago on Friday. I'll see if I can get the Engine specs for Lycoming and Cessna turboprops.

Whatcha building buddy?

421s are total hangar queens. Our 421 has gone through 3 engines this year, any type of aircraft part is going to be expensive because of the quality control. Some Cessna 340's and even 310's as well as 182's even are Turbocharged. I don't know specifically what you are looking for, I'm not a mechanic either, but a lot of aircraft parts are refurbished and new parts are sold on an exchange basis. I'd call cessna centers and see if they can help guide you in the right direction.

Just looking for a wastegate that is a butterfly style valve, I saw some reman'd ones for 1200 bucks plus a 295 dollar core, ugh. Basicly, any wastegate, not necessarily any specific one, I'd like to get the details and pick the best option. Chris, I'm back on my sequential turbo 959 mock on a 951 longblock idea. I'm doing homework on intake design now, gotta have room for the extra turbo, lol. I may just fab one for the prices of my options, I'm just concerned about the heat expansion rate and tolerances, that is where the R&D really comes into play. Really it's a simple design. Thanks guys.

I'll get what info I can gather for you. These are rebuilt on a PM type of cycle, and MTBF is very high due to the constant checking and attention. These things are NOT CHEAP in good condition.
I'm afraid what you may able to afford is not necessarily what you want Andy, but I'll beat the bushes and see what shakes out while I'm near O'hare.
