Which one to buy to change the fluid in my early LSD tranny?
Redline fluids of course.

Redline makes a gear oil with HFM additives. I cannot remeber which, but I want to say the mt90. That is the correct one for the LSD. Whatever has the "highly friction modified" description.

Carl, you should check the Redline website to be sure, but I have a feeling that their 75W90 Gear Oil is the right one for the LSD application. It is a GL-5 lube with LSD-required friction modifier additives. I use their 75W90NS product in my non-LSD 951 tranny and love it. The "NS" version doesn't have the friction modifiers. MTL and MT-90 can also be used in non-LSD. They are GL-4 lubes without modifiers.

Carl:

There has been debate about this in the past, and it is kind of confusing, but the local Redline dealer told me to use either the MT90 or Heavy Shock Proof. The 75w 90, and NS are for differentials and are too slippery for the synchros in a transmission.

MT90. there has been debate on here about GL-5 spec oils being inappropriate for use in 944 trannys. the problem is that the differential oil is the same as the transmission oil, and the synchros (brass?) have problems with the GL-5, and do better with the GL-4 spec.

i have also heard the heavy shockproof is not good either, but i don't know what the deal is there. I use MT90 and it seems to run very well.

Redline suggested MT90 for my '83 LSD.

But I'd suggest you confirm this with a call or email, the stuff ain't cheap and you don't want to spend $40 on the wrong stuff.

Hi Macfreak007,

I just noticed your post and checked with Redline, they recomend the MT-90. Capacity on your car is 5.5 pints.

Hope this helps, if you have any questions please feel free to call or e-mail me.
