Default Ever replaced the rod bearings after is started knocking???

Trying to help a friend out with a 944 that he got off of e-bay a few weeks back. He bought the car as a non running car. I got the car running, but it knocks when ever you give it a little gas. I'm pretty sure that it will be the rod bearings. Have any of you folks ever changed the bearings after it started knocking, and how is it later???

Maybe a stupid question, does the car have enough oil in it?

I haven't had the experience with these engines, but with others I've worked with, you can almost always plan on bearings, crankshaft replacement, or if your really, really, really lucky, you might be able to have crank journals turned, and use OS rod bearings. In other words, by the time you hear it a knocking, she's already suffered some damage. Just a matter of how much of a knock vs how much damage. And it won't take long to go from bad to really bad. Damage will be quite evident upon dismantle. HTH

Yes the car does have the proper amount of oil. Not a stupid question, that is the first thing I checked. The weird thing about this car as I stated in a different thread about it, it has good oil pressure.....

Before you change the rod bearings, MAKE SURE ITS NOT THE LIFTERS. They ALWAYS make noise after sitting for a long time and makes a low frequency sound resembling rod noises. A couple of them took about 15 minutes of idleing 2 different days for it to go away and that's a LONG time for it to stay running. After that, the car made no noises whatsoever. Change the oil, look for metal shavings, and maybe try running it (without load-since its not making noise) for a while before you start to take it all apart.
