Default S2 ignition

My S2 takes between 2.5-3 seconds to start normally. (hot and cold) Is this normal?

I fitted the S2 ignition kit from www.promaxmotorsport.com this morning and it did make a difference of 0.5 - 1 second. The kit includes ignition cables, new rotor arm, new distributor cap and performance spark plugs. I also recently changed the DME relay.

Generally speaking, the car is in very good condition so I dont think major surgery is required. Although I still think there is a lot of room for improvement.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can try next?

Cheers

I've heard IceShark's battery cables, grounds, starter motor cable, etc can help. That being said, I'm also under the (possibly misguided) impression that S2's are SUPPOSED to crank over for a while to get oil into the engine before they start. This is about what mine does, but 2.5-3 seconds seems a LITTLE long to me. More like 2 at the outside.

Try turning the ket to on and waiting for the fuel pressure to come up before cranking. If your fuel pressure is droppping when the car is off it might take longer to start.

I recall quite a few magazine road tests that complained about the slow starters in the 944's when they were new. I think it's just the nature of the beast.

Hello,
I just recently went throught the slow start / no start problem. After replacing the fuel filter, pressure regulator, plugs, ignition rotor, idle valve, distributor cap, speed sensor, throttle position sensor, temp sensor, ignition control unit, ignition coil and plugs, my problem still existed. It came to be the mass air meter. Now the car starts up immediatly. I still not over the fear of it not turning over. It was such a bummer to have nice compliments about your car and then it wouldn't start. Check the mass air flow meter.
