Part it or Keep it?
I'm thinking about parting out my '87 NA. Engine has 250+ miles, runs good, uses some oil. All electrics work, A/c converted to r-134 and blows cold, Yadda, yadda, yadda

DO NOT PART IT!!!!! If the car is still driveable, why would you want to destroy it. As many of you guys know, I part cars on the side to support my 944 addiction. I do not part cars unless they are totaled. I do not believe in destrorying one of the best looking, handling, driving cars to ever run the roads.
Look at this way.... Automobile mag a couple of issues did a feature on the 944 in the future collectors section. In the article, they stated.."the 944 was a cool car when it came out and it still looks cool looking car 20 yrs later"
Your car will be noticed in a crowd of Honda accords and Toyota Camary quicker than any of those cars.

Plus, if you havent' parted a car before, there is a lot more to it than it seems. A LOT of hrs to completely part one out.
How much do you want for the whole car. I'll freshen it up and sell it to another family memeber that has been wanting a 944

It can take up alot of time to part a car out and sell all the parts.
Dismantling the car is the easy part, answering 100's of email, taking and sending pictures, preparing packages for shipping.....ect is the tough part.
Unless the frame is bent, fix it!
I'll be getting a pair of 84' NA's soon, one crunched and one with a broken T-belt. I'm going to rob parts off the crunched one to turn the other one into a cheap autoX car to enjoy. Of course I'll be offering the remains to the Porsche gods via the vultures of Rennlist.

I go to almost all the events at the above locations. I had a fairly good year. Quite a few first place finishes and overall winner in my class with the WWSCC
Maybe this comming year I'll travel to your neck-of-the-woods!

I went to the last Packwood event that Fordahl/WWSCC put on. Very cool place to do it.
Our club is very cool, small group, we usualy get 6 runs with, lots more fun runs afterward.
Great group, please come on down!

A liter of oil per 1,000 miles is NOT normal. Ideally the car should consume no oil due to either burning or leakage - period. That said, it should not be parted out unless it's totalled or something. If all it needs is some maintenance or a rebuild, either do it or sell it to someone more deserving that will take care of it instead of giving it a death sentence.

From the Manual, Engine tolerances and wear limits.
Oil comsumption:
New = 1 ltr/1000 Km (600 mi)
Wear Limit = 1.5 ltr/1000 Km
My 86 uses about 1/2 quart every 1,000 miles. My 87 just doesn't seem to use oil between changes. Even after three day of track use, it was only down a little. The 86 is generating a lot more power then the 87, might have bearing on the consumption. Every car is a little different.
