Default MO30 option,,

i think my car (89 944) has the mo30 option on the suspension, the front bar is about 26mm and i think rear is 18mm, any way to know what size torison bars i have?? ( i have maintance records, and dont think anyone modified the car with these bars)

i want to know this as i was looking into stiffer springs and t-bars,, and at the moment i have a little bit of oversteer even with 255 tires in back

thanks

Have you checked the option code sticker in the trunk?

My '89 Turbo has 030 listed on the option code sticker in the trunk. Is there a difference between 030 and M030?

If I recall, all '89 turbos were "S" cars, so you should have the M030 adjustible suspension, K26-8 turbo, and turbo S calipers.

The option code 030, when decoded, is M030.

also , if i just upgrade to 200# springs would this now turn my car into and understeer or balance the little bit of oversteer, (rear already lowered with the trick)

the reference is Jim Pasha's Tech Forum article in Excellence, May 1994

torsion bars are 23.5 mm
M030 option was for the front bar - increase from 21.5mm to 25.5x4 tubular bar.

If your '89 has adjustable rear coil overs and the 18 mm rear bar, you can get away with 200# front springs and maintain the front-rear balance, IMO. You might have the slightly stiffen the rear shock a little bit to keep the car from pushing in the middle of turns, but you will still be in the ball park. Problems start to crop up about balance with non-coil over rears, then the fix ends up being stiffer rear torsion bars which are very labor intensive

FYI, 474 is not compatible with 030.

It doesn't look like your car has M030. The 474 option is for Koni shocks. Your car has either 23.5 mm torsion bars or 24 mm torsion bars. The factory manuals refer to a technical information Gr. 4 8/89 which apparently says that some 1989 944s were built with 24 mm torsion bars and a 16 mm rear sway bar. Either way, the rear torsion bars are pretty soft, and going to 200# front springs will increase the understeer.

My '89 NA suspension has confused me as well. It has a 26.8mm front sway bar but I don't have the M030 option. That front bar size seems big for non-M030 and it appears to be original (wear and tear seem consistent with rest of car) .... but I have the Koni rear shocks.
