Default Gas line leak- need advice on where to get part

A month or so ago I replaced my fuel filter and now one of the gas lines connected to the filter is leaking. The weird part is that it is leaking at the compression fitting at the other end of of the line that is not connected to the filter and is next to the chassis. I guess when I replaced the filter I must have stressed the line at that point. It is now leaking pretty bad. Any advice where to get a new gas line section? I checked a few places like Pellican and Paragon but they do not list it. Dealer only?

So the leak is "after" the fuel filter, right? In other words, there is a short rubber section after the gas goes through the fuel filter, and then it connects to the hard line for the long run to the front of the car. Is it leaking where the rubber line becomes the hard line?

If it is leaking from the short piece of rubber fuel hose (about 6-8 inches long), you can either buy the hose for about 30 bucks, or cut off the crimps on each end, remove the fittings, and go to the store and buy some high pressure fuel hose and fuel injection hose clamps, put the fittings on the new hose with hose clamps, and make the hose for about $2.50. I did this months ago and it is holding fine.

Yes, the 6 to 8 inch rubber hose after the fuel filter is leaking at the opposite end of the hose where it connected to the steel line. I just think it is weird that it started leaking. Sounds like fixing it would be the easiest. The auto parts store has high pressure clamps? And when I cut off the old "compression" fittings will the hose go over these fittings to use the new clamps?

Remove the hose, take it to a shop that fabricates hydraulic lines and other hose products. They'll do a great job, probably in braided steel, for half the price of the dealer. My brother had the same problem on his 88na, he took the hose off and handed it over to the local forklift/hydraulic repair shop. New hose in braided steel that afternoon at about 1/2 the dealer cost. Not all good parts come from Stuttgart.

The hose crimps that you will cut off, you will toss, that is why you need the fuel injector hose clamps (not the zebra style clamps). IIRC that is exactly what they were called, "fuel injector hose clamps," and the size was either 5/16 or 3/8. I took in the old hose with me, so they could size it up the same. I picked up everything i needed from advanceauto for about 3 bucks. That hose is prone to leaking as well, but what can you expect after almost 20 years on a rubber hose.

When I was removing the fuel filter on my car, I noticed that the metal fitting on the outlet side of the fuel filter was not spinning freely with respect to the hose. This meant that I was twisting up the hose when I was trying to remove the filter. So, I had to remove the inlet hose, then turn the fuel filter itself to remove it from the outlet side.

I then soaked the fitting with PB blaster, turned it back and forth until it turned freely.

I'd bet that the cause of your cracked hose was due to the fitting seizing up like mine, and the hose getting twisted during removal of the filter. It's really hard to see what's happening, in my case, I had to put my hand on the hose itself to feel what was going on.

Thanks for all the advice. I picked up some hose and clamps and will try to fix it that way. This chat board works great for me.

I had that same hose spring a leak about 6 months ago. 2 hose clamps on each end, and no leaks yet.

When I looked around, the only place that could get it was the dealership, and they wanted like $185CDN for that hose. Not worth it.

Isn't that hose section crimped to the hard line that runs to the front of the car? If so, replacing the whole assembly with a new factory part would be a real bear.

Nope, it has 2 threaded ends. I was able to remove the hose, and work on it in the garage.
My dealer's pricing really sucks.

I like the hydraulic shop idea, I've done that before and they do wonderful work. Also you can contact Pauerman here in rennlist, he has the aircraft quality fittings to do fuel lines.
