I would be willing to bet that there are about 50 people watching that auction that are planning on bidding within the last minute of it. If it goes for less than 2K, I'd be very surprised, and kicking myself for not picking it up.

Not to be a d*@k, but any buyer is taking a big risk with that motor. The seller is smartly describing the item in simple terms "it was running, the car was crashed, here is the motor"

But I guess you take this risk with any used motor or part . . .

FWIW: I sold a rolling 944 S2 chassis with a block and crank of unknown condition (i.e. the car didn't run so I couldn't say 100% they were ok) for a price that would make every jaw on this board drop. I still made a ton of $$$ on the car as a whole, so don't think I'm just being bitter

tifosiman I'll pass on the $1k offer but thanks anyways.

The bell housing is cracked but you can use any NA or S bellhousing to replace it. The scratch on the cam cover is completely cosmetic and in no way affects the operation of the motor.

944Fanatic I'm hoping it'll go for at least $2k, I mean it's a complete motor with DME, the wiring harness and even the module from the fender.

Mike, I'm the seller and I'm really not trying to hide anything about it. I was told the car ran fine and then the idiot PO slid it under an SUV it sat for a while and I bought it as a parts car. The motor turns over freely and I didn't find any metal in the oil so I'd assume the rod bearings didn't spin. I'll admit anyone who buys this motor is taking a risk but at 160K I personally wouldn't just drop it in and let it rip I'd rebuild it first but that's just me and of course as mentioned above the engine parts alone are worth a lot so even if the engine does end up being junk you could probably make a lot parting it out.

I hope I didn't imply you were hiding something. I think your ebay ad is fine. IMHO, this has the potential to be a good deal for someone

When I got my S2 parts car down to the chassis and bottom end of the motor I was just sick of looking at it. Didn't have the tools or the time to mess with it any more, so I sold it cheap and got rid of it. Cash in the pocket and mess outta the driveway

I was going to trade some items for the SC kit, but it wasn't really what I was looking for anyway. And yes, ideally the CS project will eventually have a normally aspirated 3.0 in it. I only offered $1K for the motor, because, IMHO, it looks like a total rebuild would be in order, along with the need to find a new bellhousing. I have seen good, low mileage S2 motors go for $2500 in the past, so that's what I thought it was worth to me. Someone else can pay more money for it, and part it out for cash profit if they want. But I don't want to mess with that.

Not a bad deal...but what does it cost to ship an engine? That eats into the deal a lot. Plus belts, cam tensioner, maybe rod bearings, and anything else you should change...S2 motor parts cost more too...

If it was 50K motor that is still running in the car....

Odie shipping probably will be around $200-$300 depending on where it's going and who ships it. Part of the reason I'm selling the motor is because I can't afford to rebuild it the way I want to and because I don't have a car to put the motor in so I need money to get a car.

I am also watching this. As some of you know I recently blew up the motor in my 89 S2 which is also white and blue. I am a little hesitant about the mileage, mine had 145,000 on it. I am also thinking about either a 968 motor or an aluminum small block.

which callaway kit are you refering to? I know they have some turbo kits but I wasn't aware that they had anything for the 3.0L.

This is one of the original kits Callaway did for the 944 - I imagine it could be adapted pretty readily to the 3.0L. That would put down MONSTROUS power.

Ohhhh boy, the possibilities. . .

A 20psi boosted 3.0L engine, possibly reconditioned & bored to 3.2L. Now we're talkin'!!! What do you think that'd dyno? Maybe 450? 500?

I cant afford having you with a 3.0 boosted block, thats just going to make me do the same thing, and we can't have that happening yet, can we?

On stock internals at 20 psi? It would make a nice table! The turbo used in the Callaway kit will never make 20psi at any rate.

And "if" you could do it, it would make a lot more than 450.
