Default I drove a 944 v8 hybrid today!!!!

today was a good day....I was sad as my 951 has some more oil under it and the 944na still sits.....BUT I was going to meet a guy with a 944 hybrid v8 conversion to check it out....how interesting....I stop by my dads on the way there and he let's me take his 04 C5 convertible on the one hour trip...he says " put some drive time on it and fill her up" [it only has 2k miles on it and he has had it a year]...ok so I am off....I meet up and the 944 hybrid is very nice....guards red with 17" cups....very clean with GT racing non popup headlights. the engine compartment looks very clean....wow very well done. he starts it up and it is so quiet (the fuel pump is louder than the engine)...he then drives me around and it felt good...lots of power and did not feel nose heavy...then I got to drive...wow you almost don't need 1st gear lots of power...but very driveable...and I did not feel the handleing was changed at all with the new engine...the Brakes are non power and you have to really put your foot down but you could get used to that quick....(it has stock na brakes and he said new brakes in the future...like all car projects.... never finished...always an upgrade) wow I liked it....very interesting...
He has had the car since like it had 20k miles on it and then the engine gave up and to make a long story short the shop wanted 6k to rebuild it...he love the car so lt1 v8 transplant was the way to go....well enough talking now some pics....

stupid vid I tried to make with my cam in my mouth driving the c5

There was an LS1 out of a new GTO on ebay yesterday, would make for an N/A that purred, with a little cam lope.

I wonder what would make it harder to fit?

Thats some craftsmanship on the headlights! I still prefer the stock units though. People who talk poorly of ls1 conversions are...well...conceited.

Very nice and clean looking hybrid. This one is definitely done right! My only comment is that the headlights make the car look "sad."

Not a big fan of the headlights, either -- but otherwise, looks like a very well done swap!

I know of a 968 owner who wants to go the LS1 route -- do you know who/where that conversion is?

http://www.560sec.com/bulletinboard/viewtopic.php?t=234
some good info on the ls1 swap

and here is the guy that did ls1 968 swap (you will have to search his post) this guy knows conversions...
http://www.560sec.com/bulletinboard/...ewprofile&u=10

Yea when they are done nice they are way cool....not like that ford one that was on ebay...lol

I'm still thinking of hotroding the 951 with maf, ect and maybe doing a conversion on the Na if I can't fix it this winter (can't fix it....such as it is going to cost major $$$$$$...but if it is just the oil pick up tube it will not get a conversion)

As far as I know, the Renegade kit will not work with an LS1. Besides, you can suck a boat load of power out of the LT1 with heads, cam, throttle body, etc. -- who needs an LS1?

I'll do the 944 LT1 conversion some day. That would be a blast.

Hi guys. Thanks for the compliments Dan! Was a fun day and great weather for a drive. If you noticed the 6th picture, my rear tire was going flat... we made a quick run to a gas station to fill it and it's been holding since. I must have broken the seal on one of those power turns... I'm still undecided on the headlights as well: The light linkage needed to be removed and I didn't care for the permanent "lights-up" look. I purchased the (overpriced) GT Racing headlight buckets, covers and rectangular lights. The buckets, in my opinion, were molded inside out (gel coat on the outside) and they came without any brackets of any kind. The square lights looked cheap and gave poor light control for the high/low beams. I covered the inside of the buckets with carbon fiber and painted the backside of the lexan covers to give some character & cover up the mountings. I also like the stock look, but I can now aim the high/low beams separately, have the original aerodynamics, and shaved some weight. I will probably upgrade the lights to a higher quality when I get some time.

the ls1 is some 80 lbs lighter than the lt1 which in my oppion is a large advantage. This is however quite a nice car, I'm envious.

later,
