Default Flywheel bolts? How to remove?

How do you remove the flywheel 12mm cheesehead bolts without the flywheel turning? I have the proper Snap-on driver but everytime I try to loosen the bolt, the fly wheel turns? Need advice?

Thanks,
David

I put a 15/16 socket and breaker bar on the crankshaft pulley, and had someone hold it while i popped off the flywheel bolts. The 2nd time, i just found a long breaker bar, and wedged it against the ground (again attached the crankshaft bolt) and turned them off.

Oh and Constant careful pressure with lots of PB blaster and they will come off no problem.

Impact wrench would be easiest. Past that, you can use two wrenches working in opposition. When you have two opposing ones loose, back them out until you can put a bar between them and use it as a lever to hold the flywheel still while removing the rest. HTH

Thanks for the suggestions! Did you guys use a pilot bearing puller to remove the pilot bearing or something else?

That or use 2 pressure plate bolts on opposite sides and a bellhousing bolt, with a long prybar or jack handle across them. That's how I pulled about 4-5 flywheels on the floor so far, worked well.

I used a slide hammer on the pilot bearing myself...

all nine flywheel bolts came off in about three minutes with an impact wrench. no stripping, PB blasting, or anything. easiest thing i've ever done.

my machinist pulled out the pilot bearing while resurfacing the flywheel.

I used a pilot bearing puller that I bought for the job. Autozone will loan you a slide hammer, I think. Either should work.

auto zone will rent you pretty much any tool for free, they should have a pilot bearing puller and slide hammer.

I bought a high torque impact wrench and the bolts came right out!! Thanks..
Now, for a stupid question:

Can you remove the flywheel with the pilot bearing attached? Now that the 12mm cheesehead bolts are out, the flywheel is still difficult to remove?

Thanks

Yes you can, the flywheel is just frozen on there. Tap around it with a hammer as you wiggle and pull.
