Default Newbie wheel question

I've been getting a few parts off an early 944 at the boneyard and last time I was out there I noticed the rims look a lot like these Fuchs people talk a lot about here. From what I read there are a bunch of different kinds or something, some rare/expensive and others common? About all I can tell is that it's an early 944 and the car was pretty much stock except for a K&N sticker on the airbox. I'm not exactly in the market now, but would they fit a 924S?

No, not if they are off an early car. Are you sure they are not cookie cutters?

Thanks for the pictures, I've been searching the board for some without a lot of luck. From what I remember the spokes went outward and looked more simple like the first one. The car had lots of options, everything I could think of except for the rear wiper. I'll have to go back out to the yard sometime soon to be sure and pick up some more small stuff, but I'm almost 100% sure they're like the first picture.

Fuchs will not fit a 924S- UNLESS they are the extremely rare 50MM offset of the 924GTS/GTU factory option. there are like 20 sets of those. (5 cars worth)Originally from a 83 Carrera GTS 924.

If you find them let me know. They'll be a 6/7 J 15 ET 50.1mm Fuchs imprint.

VERY rare, and very expensive. late offset Fuchs are 1200 each. I saw a pair for sale in the UK last year, they went for 2K each wheel. WAAY over my budget.

So the imprint is on the inside of the rim, and from the factory they're rare on early 944s? From the way the car looked I just figured whoever bought it new got a lot of options. It looks like the last owner was somebody young, from the K&N sticker on the airbox and bad repainting of the lines on the mirror switch. It's an '83 - '85.1 so I guess anything late is out of the question. As of now the ashtray light, rear reference sensor, and glove box lock w/logo are living on in my car. Probably the power antenna before too long.

They won't fit on my car (yeah, million to one they would) - good to know. I'll have to ask how much they are in case they are what I think they are and see if anybody here is interested. So far they haven't charged for anything like it's gold plated but I haven't gotten much.

Chris has confused you, jeez Chris!

Fuchs are NOT that rare. They were an option on the early cars 1983-1985 (not 85.5). They are worth about 600 bucks for the set depending on condition and size. Spec racers love them because they are very light and strong. They came on lots of Porsches from 914s to 911s, to 944s.

Chris is referring to the ultra rare and not going to be found in a junkyard set of late offset fuchs, of which there are 12 pairs (probably a lot more than that because they were for the factory race cars and they love their spares!) or so.

Ok, cool. I'll still ask the guy at the parts counter and post the answer next time I'm over there (gimme a week+ or so here). Maybe somebody will get a deal out of it. The car is out there because it was hit on the drivers side behind the rear wheels. It wasn't hit too hard.

Parts cars are hard to find over here, out of everything in this huge yard there's a 928 that's been picked pretty clean, a 924, and maybe 3 or 4 early 944s. One or two almost gone, another that's 100% burned, and this other one that's been around maybe a year or 1.5 but hardly anyone gets parts off it.

True dat Matt. The earlly offset are commanding some great action and prices, but nowhere near the Ultra rare late offset fuchs.

Sorry for any confusion.

Scuba Steve.. Think Late Offset- - 52.3 MM is your goal. all else is a damn expensive spacer or not a fit. Steer clear of 23 MM for a 924S.
