I bought my car one year ago with 42,876 one owner miles, sport seats, almost perfect interior and almost perfect exterior. Some of my friends thought I was nuts for doing the mods to my car. **** on them, they love it now. If you want to mod your car for the track GO FOR IT.
It's always better to start with a good car and preserve the good stuff you will need, get top $ selling what you don't need, and have a nice day.

As Winslow said (nice pic!) If the track mods are done right, don't sweat modding a good shape 951. That is what they were built to do, not sit in climate controlled garage and get oogled. My 89 only has mods to make it a better "track" car.. bolt in rollbar, belts, some suspension tweaks, a little HP bump, etc. It is still a great street car. All of the mods are reversable, but I can't imagine ever un-doing her. Accept the 951 is not an ideal autocross machine. If you need an autocross beast than change flavors. Take your sweet 951 and customize it to your needs. If your needs include welding and cutting, then consider a beater.

Either way, I'm finishing up college and graduating in the spring. Now really isn't the right time to seriously entertain such thoughts...but...it's so tough...to...resist.

Been there and done that. Wait till you're out of college, then let the fun begin. I'm about to start the restoration on the outside of mine. It's going to be almost irresistable, but it's worth waiting till you have the money to do it right.

A well set up track suspension with lighter spring rates is a much more comfortable, and safer, road setting than the stock set up. My opinion. I bought a cheap '87 project car to build my race car. Doesn't look pretty but it makes a great and reliable daily driver none the less.
