Default Wheels upgrade

Hi everyone,

I was doing some research on upgrading my wheels amd it seems to me that a very cost effective way is to go with 245/45/16 on 8Jx16. my 87 951 came with 8Jx16 cast aluminum phone dial wheels in the rears and so I'm looking for the same pair to put on the fronts.

If anyone is intrested in selling their old phone dials please let me know by PM or e-mail @ rhanania56@msn.com

Thanks

Rami

i think 245 all around might not be the optimum way to go... you can put 225/50/16 on your front phone dials, mine is set up with 225/50/16 front, and 245/45/16 rear on the stock phone dials.

I use 225/50/16 front and 245/45/16 Victoracers on my factory 968 wheels for AutoX. It seems to be a good combination but I have never tried factory sized tires on the wheels.

I believe that going with 245s all around would cause increased understeer which may be what you are going for. Bob Blackwood from 968.net has 245s all the way around on his 968 so he can rotate them.

I believe that you can dial out the built in understeer with simply putting wider tires on the fronts. with the wider contact patch there will be more grip so the fronts won't loose grip first which causes understeer. With your set up get better grip all arround but the fronts will still loose grip first.

What do guys think??

even if your theory is correct, you will be sacrificing a good amount of turn in, and it may rub... then again, these things rub stock anyway. You may also be facing snap break characteristics, like snap oversteer or understeer since they will grip the same, but once one looses it, it will probably do it in snap fashion.

The 245 all around on 8" rims is a fantastic setup. These car actually handle quite well (if not better) without the staggered setup. You shouldnt have too hard a time finding late offset PDs but you will likely end up having to buy a pair unless you contact places like:

Ernie's Alloys in Miami
Wheel Enhancement (www.wheelenhancement)

Be seated when calling neither is a very inexpensive source.

I just went from 205/225 to 225/245. My god, what a difference!!! Car feels better in every way...the new wheels have a lower offset too, so that might have to do something with it too.

I run 245/45s all around on 8x16's PDs. Understeer is significanyly reduced. It might be just as cheap to find someone selling a complete set of 7&8 x 16's rather than buy them separately. That's what I did. Anyone need a set of four 7x16 phone dials?

Any Rub issues with 245 all arround? I have the stock suspension?
