Lug Nutz, Minimum Threads?
We, meaning my brother just put the spacers Riff sent us (Thanks Riff!! used only two of the four) on the front of his 89 to mount the Boxster S rims.
What is the minimum safe number of full turns the lug nut should make?
TIA

Depth should be 1.5x the stud diameter at minimum. I'm not sure how that corresponds to turns, but you can mark the stud at the right depth and screw one on with the wheel off and count turns.

"Depth should be 1.5x the stud diameter at minimum."
Yup, general rule of thumb on fasteners 1.5x the diameter in engaged threads for best results. However, minimum is 1.0x on the studs. With 14mm stud, divided by 1.5mm/thread = 9 complete turns. I wouldn't go less than 1.5x or 14 turns with the alloy lug-nuts.
Why are you guys being so cheap? It only takes 30-minutes to install longer studs on the front hubs anyway...

If you plan on tracking the car, most orgs mandate steel, open end nuts instead of the closed end alloy ones that come with the car. Try a steel nut and see just how little the nut grabs the lug and then the time spent changing to longer studs will become trivial. You'll want those longer studs.

Standard length studs are 45mm. I know that 55mm does exist, but not sure about 50mm. A 1/4" spacer is approx 6mm. If you end up adding a 10mm longer stud, Im not sure if the alloy closed end lug nuts will bottom out or not.
I have never checked, so it may be possible, but I would be surprised if you can pick up the studs and/or the correct steel lug nuts from a NAPA type store off the shelf.
This is from another thread on wheel spacers that I posted yesterday.....
"The PCA Club Racing rule is that the thread engagement must be equal or greater than the diameter of the stud. So if the stud is 12mm diameter(guessing, I dont remember offhand), you need to have at least 12mm sticking out to be engaged by the lug nut.
This is pretty typical for most bolts and nuts: the nut height is approx equal to the diameter of the bolt.
Personally, I would not use a stud that does extend at least flush or stick out of the end of a steel lug nut. Especially if youre using the factory alloy lug nuts (which are softer than steel), I would not use any spacer without getting longer wheels studs that match the thickness of the spacer."

As above - I suggest you get longer studs. Street driving, autox, track - no matter what, I can't think of a good time to worry about a wheel falling off!
Tom: are you going to the Tobay beach autox Nov 7th? I won't be there, but if you are, have a fun time!

This season was a bomb for me.
I have to be in Palo Alto next weekend for Jills first cousins wedding.
Had to go to Cinci the day after the last one so I was on AK duty
Went with my brother to look at the 89 NA he bought during the sept one
Went to the surprise 40th for my buddy with the big C the day of the august one
Visited Jills 97 y/o grandmother in FL the day of the july one
Went to the June one and suked
went to teh may one only to get rained on! cancelled
April was rained out
Made it to two this year. what a bummer
Keep me posted on the next novice day. I want to get out, and cant sneak a FE mount into the car without getting caught.

You can get the longer studs from an number of sources, about $4-5 each. Troutman comes to mind, they have a wide variety. Phone-number can be found in ads in Excellence.
