For all you guys over 100,000 miles. When did you rebuild, or have you?

I rebuilt at 120K...but then again, I have no clue the service history of the previous owners...and also, I raced it a couple times on the track without knowing how to prevent the dreaded #2 spun bearing.

so yeah. Fresh engine runnin great, only slightly leaky.

is that 300,000 miles? JustinL has a N/a on here with I think 180,000 miles, same with his 951s on original engines, head gaskets, etc. to the best of my knowledge. Mine's at 140,000 miles and still runs like a top

Didnt Porsche do some drive in Austrailia with a 944 back in the day and put a rackload of miles on the car within a week to show of lasting ability? Something about "to the moon and back?" Damn, ive been forgetting my history lately!

Ok, for these people that have 200,000 miles and up... thats like a daily driver since new!!! (or a lot of road trips) Wow! I couldnt imagine hitting 200,000 for like another 60 years at my rate!

Too bad i drive 25-30k miles a year in my 944... As an 18 year old daily driver, thatd be closer to half a million miles.

Hmm, rebuild? why, lol.. I bought my 96 NA with 298K last nov, she is over 318k now and almost a year later. Things gone since purchase.. one front wheeel bearing, belts and oil cooler seals. I was chasing an oil pressure problem, never found a culprit for no oil pressure. I checked the guage, sender, drive sleeve, oil pump, pick-up tubes, oil pressure releif valve, nothing. While the pan was off, I did rod and main bearings, they were still in good shape after 310K miles. I have no record of the head ever being off and it appears not to be tampered with. The trans was rebuilt at 265K by the dealer along with a clutch around that time. All I say is, she runs well for her age.

I like your new avatar Serge, it's truly your philosophy. Dimitry came over this morning and picked up the 951 trans; he tried to pay me in beads but we settled on Magic Beans.

Andy's car with 310K miles is a testament to good design and routine maintenace...congratulations.

Funny you mention the tranny. Dmitry removed the "bolt that was loose on top of the tranny," because hes curious "like a cat." Now he needs to "open up the entire tranny to put it back in."

Regardless, for my next avatar: I'm not going to wash the exterior of the car for a month, and take some action shots (aka "i just had the wrong line - it's not like i dont know how to drive...").

Default 318,000 on my 88 944 na

Purchased the car new, used as a daily driver. Connecting rod bearings were replaced at 169k mi following failure of oil cooler seal and subsequent mixing of oil and coolant. Otherwise, nothing has been done inside the engine or ttansmission.

Just today I crossed 200,000 miles. My odometer currently reads 200021.

Never an engine rebuild, and when I change the oil at 5,000 miles the oil on the dipstick is at the same level as when I did the last oil change.
I'm on the original clutch!
No rust.
My driver's seat has some tears.
No cracks in the dashboard.
I did have a problem in the tranny at about 120K, which necessitated a rebuilt tranny.

Not bad for a car with 200K miles, including a few outings on the track.

Serge-I never should have asked him if he knew what that bolt connected to. I think it's a mount for something but I'm not "curious" enough to drop my tranny to find out. Is he really going to split the case to find out?

Avatar action shots? Just take a picture of the 4 wheel lock-up tracks you left on Salmon Falls Road... who needs a car in the photo, let everyone try to figure out what the the outcome was! I think the authorities are still dragging the lake looking for the PERP.

Yeah....that bolt definately hold something important together. I tried putting it back in, but the thing it threads into inside the tranny definately didn't want to line up. In fact, i think it turned 180 degrees. I'm taking it to CT automotive on Monday and have them crack open the case and put it back together. While I'm at it, i guess i'll inspect the synchros and such.

Now I know not to do that again.
