Identify a 911 RS
For the past couple of weeks I've been seeing a white 911 with sort of a whale tail and the initials "RS" on the back right. It looks like it's in excellent shape. I've seen it driving out of my neighborhood but haven't met the owner yet. What's "under the hood" on this car?

There are two types of RS it could be: if it's an early car (longhood) and you're mistaking a ducktail for a whale tail, it's a 2.7L 210-bhp 6-cylinder with mfi, the Carrera RS - likely a replica, as the real thing is rare and pricey.
If it's a duck-billed car (74-89) it could be a Carrera 3.0, a 3.0L version of the Carrera RS made after the impact bumpers.
Neither was sold in the US, but there are US Carreras that are detuned but have all the badging. Owners often make their cars replicas of both, with the early car being more popular to imitate.

From what I have heard, the original RSAs came to US dealers w/o the decals attached. They were installed by dealers, which is possibly one reason why you see RSAs with the rear emblem in slightly different height locations on the trunk lid, some without, and some without the decals in front of the rear wheels.
The 93-94 RSAs are basically a regular 964 C2 with some delete options and M030 sport suspension. They have the 250bhp 3.6 ltr twin plug motor, which in various forms was used from the 89 964 C4 through the 98 993s.

They made a few over 700 in the two years of production, so you do come across one every so often.
But according to the RSA registry, where 277 of the car owners are registered, there is only one identified in NC.

the RSA is probably as rare as a 951S, which is not overly rare. i'd like to have a true european 964 RS - a different car altogether from the American RSA. now that's rare.

The RSA is nice but the euro RS is one of the all time great p-cars
From memory, these babies have a seam welded bodyshell, magnesium alloy wheels, blueprinted engine, lightweight flywheel, heavy duty clutch, thinner glass, Recaro bucket seats, and loads more I can't think of right now.
Me likey!

Yep I would agree with that assessment.
There are plenty of RSA's out there. You just need to know where to look.

One of my friends here in Memphis has an Uncle with a midnight blue RSA track car. it doesn't see the roads, but only tracks around Memphis. It's a beautiful car and taken car of miticuluously, but it's far from stock. After seeing and riding in his, I'd love to have one of my own!
