I am having a problem with my front hood. The cable is working and will release the hood but the spring/latch will not lock down when I try and close the hood.
Has anyone had this problem before? I searched but only found people with broken cables.
Any thoughts? I took the air box off and everything looks good.

There is a spring in the latch that might have called it a day.....
Visit a junk jard and get a latch from a golf II / Jetta. Spring should fit and with a bit of luck you can swap the complete latch
Or else there is a lot of hardened grease that is blocking the movement of the mechanism.
Brake cleaner and silicone spray should cure that.

I once had the white nylon/plastic part that retains the spring crack and allow the spring to extend into the area of the gumdrop-shaped pin. I just replaced the whole latch assembly, as I had a spare, but taking it apart and just getting a new plastic piece would have done the trick. . . .
