The OEM stuff isn't that expensive ($85-120 if I recall) and looks good. The shiny aluminum stuff is supposed to be heat reflective, but looks a bit gaudy. Would be concerned about flammability issues with the Home Depot solution. My car has the stock airbox removed, as I have a MAF and K&N air filter assembly, so I can hear the turbo, bov and air flow louder than normal, so I like the sound insulation of the OEM padding.

The later 944's didn't have it.
I used a shop vac to remove it on my 85.5 since it was disintegrating anyway.
