Default anyone have specs for a custom 944 sub woofer box?

I dont want to pay $150 bucks for a sub woofer box when I could make one myself. It would be helpful if some had the dimenstions for a box that will fit in the spaces behind the wheel wells or spare tire area. does anyone have some measurements? thanks

This is a project I'm looking to do as well but I haven't been bored enough to take a tape measure to the trunk yet. Guess now is the time. Give me a day and I can check.

not worth it. I went this route myself, thinking it would be easy. Then I got a cardboard mockup that fit' but low and behold wasn't removable. I'm a stubborn a$$; so I kept going. I finally ended up with something roughly equivalent to the KLA box; but around 50 hours of work were invested. There is no way to make a box with square sides that will fit an 8" back in that cubby. On mine all angles but one are complex angles. No, I dont have the specs because I gave up on drawing and ended up with a trial and error approach.

The only way I would see a homebuild being a viable alternative is if you needed something bigger than 8", in which case you are doing a simple set on top plate or a fiberglass enclosure that molds the cubby.

$150 seems like alot; but compared to the time youd spend figuring it out; you are better off in the end by getting a job at minimum wage and buying it vs the time to build one.

Why do you have to build a box in the cubbyholes - can you just make a top plate that is a perfect fit, and use caulk to seal around the edges?

i am getting rid of my box if anyone is interested... dark lightning i offered it to you first, but now i live in texas so it is a bit of a drive or a big shipping charge. if you want to see pictures check out my cardomain page in my sig. basically it fits in the spare tire well. it holds a 12" sub. you need to remove the mounts for the spare tire (all three of them). the sub faces the gas tank (or forward). it fits perfectly, and the deck carpet will cover it making it totally invisible. i don't remember my exact specs for the box, but it was made for my inifinity kappa perfect sub (i think it is just over 1 cubic foot). made from 75% 3/4" MDF and the bottom is fiberglassed. sealed enclosure. if anyone else is interested all i want out of it was the cost for materials and shipping if it must be shipped. all in all 40 dollars plus shipping.* note the box is an unfinished state, meaning that it is not painted or sanded or carpeted. it is raw MDF and unsanded fiberglas. yes it is fully assembled and i had it in my car for about 9 months pounding away, it does not shift around under heavy acceleration, or braking, or turning , and sounds really good.

Default Bazooka Sub

The subwoofer that I currently have in my 951, is the bazooka 8" sub with a 222 watt sony amp. This is not like extrememly loud, but gives an overall great sound quality, considering I mount it directly behind the rear back seat. They make one that resembles a nitrous bottle, and others that are just in solid black color. It takes up some room, but not as much as a custom box would. This is just a suggestion. I actually got pulled over by the police, when they were behind me, at a traffic light, questioning whether I had nitrous or not. It is very attractive, and is a conversation starter. Overall though, I was looking for something inexpensive, and that sounded good, looked good, and didn't take up much space. Good Luck....

Let me take this opportunity to recommend the Infiniti Basslink, it's a nice powered sub with a built in amplifier all ready to go and removeable for when you need the space. I have one in my Jeep and it packs a powerful punch. It can be mounted horizontally or vertically.

I looked into it and it sounded good however, very tough to hide in our cars.

kjp, that is certainly an option; although there are some strange edges you would have to accomadate. for mine, I wanted the box to be removable/ transplantable if I got a 951. In my old car I went a route similiar to the one you suggest; making a box with 5 wooden sides and gluing to the floor for my bottom side (complex contours). The box worked so-so; had a lot of resonance from the sheet metal. The biggest problem was removing it when I sold the car; I spend 4 hours with prybars, hammers, knives, and saws to get it out. Needless to say the box was destroyed.

I run with a Basslink as well, its awesome, it tucks nicely on the left side of the hatch with a couple bungee cords and it hits nice too. 200 watts is all you need in a 944 - the sound carries through the hatch for a great full sound.

I built one a few years back, but I was not too interested in giving it a nice finish since it's hidden. It fits nicely in the passenger rear cubby. I built it for a 10", but the volume of the enclosure is a little on the small side. It sounds very nice coupled to the right amp. I had to file down one of the corners in order for the carpet flap to not stick up when the enclosure is in place. You can see it in the 2nd and 3rd pic.

Could you give me some dimensions on that box with the 10 in it. I want to make something just like that.
