Good luck!

This question usually pops up once every six months. Yet I have never seen a definative, common answer to it.

My 85NA had this problem. I found that the gasket that seals around the fuel sender (on top of the gas tank) was leaking. There is an access hole in the cargo area under the carpet, which allows direct access from the tank to the vehicles interior. After this repair my NA still had fuel vapor entering the cabin. I replaced the filler neck (again fuel vapor containing parts that are directly inside the cab), but still had the fuel vapor smell. I was tracing the fuel vapor line (also inside the cab, what were the engineers thinking???) but short of removing the entire interior, that project is very difficult. I decided to sell the car. Now it is someone else's problem.

So to sum it up, I have heard of many a 944 with this problem, with little or no feed back on a repair. So if you do cure this issue on your car, please post the repair. Good hunting.

my 84 had the same problem. I replaced both the cap and the charcoal and I never had it again.
