Default Gasket Help

I ordered a head gasket set and it came with more gaskets than I remember taking off. That's better than it being the other way around, but I'd like to go ahead and install the others if I can find out where they go. There's a picture here:

Pictures in gasket album

Anybody know where these go? Thanks!

Haha, you must've seen the other albums. Yes, the timing belt was broken when I got the car and I knew what I was getting into... the story is that the previous owner never paid attention to the timing belt and one day a roller froze up. Belt snaps, valves bend. He took the head in somewhere, got a new water pump and rollers and a new timing belt (looks like the same old balance belt) He didn't use any of the tools you're supposed to use; he just put the belt on and fired up the engine. I was told that everything was lined up right, but immediately the car backfired and the new belt broke. From what I saw when the engine was apart, either he didn't have the timing marks lined up right or since he didn't use anything to set the belt the tension was so bad that the teeth rubbed into eachother immediately, the belt snapped, and 5 valves bent.

Either way, at that point he'd had about enough of trying to fix the car so he sold it to me for cheap. Even though I'm using a tensioning tool, flywheel lock, and all the other ones needed I'm still nervous about starting the car up for the first time. Because I can't be 100% sure why everything happened when he started it up I wonder if there were something else that could've caused the backfire and belt breaking besides the timing marks being wrong or the teeth on the belt rubbing.

I hope not, but it's been over a month since I took the head off. Memories fade and I only have so many pictures saved!

My guess is that these parts go with the camshaft assembly? I didn't want to get too far into that until I had a little more direction.

Well, this maybe my opinion here. But if you are 'nervous' on replacing the gaskets (which one goes where sort of thing), and since you have the head off, why don't you give the cylinder head with the head gasket set to a specialist?

Sure, that puts cost up more, but at least you would have a professional doing the job. Not to mention that they would also be able to find out other 'things' that would need replacing when you can't.............then you can put the head/belts back on and start her up.......?

Again, just my opinion here.......

Bad choice of words on my part. I'd rather not go into the camshaft assembly, taking apart what's in there to find out that they are different from the ones that I have and wind up needing to order a set of those while still wondering what the extras that I have are. As far as starting it up, after it's all back together I'll turn it over by hand a couple of times before turning with the starter. That won't accomplish much except show that the marks still line up after a couple of revolutions which they are supposed to anyway. I work slow and double-check a lot, there's always the "what if" factor that would be there no matter who does the work and turns the key the 1st time.

It's the Victor Reinz set, 02-26015-03 or 944 100 901 00.

The headgasket set is actually a complete top-end kit. Has seals for the cam-tower, balance-shaft seals, valve-stem seals, etc... Just use what you need and save the rest, you'll be needing soon enough...

Any clue what those six metal ones and the small plastic one are? Those look like they'll be the hardest. I'm guessing the o-rings are the camshaft and balance shaft seals, and the large plastic one is for the camshaft itself? The cork gasket I'm less sure of - maybe the distributor or something? It looks like some of these gaskets are the same as the front engine reseal kit, but I'm not sure which or where exactly they're found.

the cork gasket goes on the backside of the cam housing; it seals a small cap that is held on by three bolts.
