Default 968 rack in an '87?

Needed a rack and picked one up on eBay from German Auto Dismantlers. Their ad described it as being from a 968 and working on all 944s. Doing some research, after the fact, I find that the later 944s share the rack part number, but not my year.

Is this thing going to work for me? The target vehicle is an '87 944 N/A.

Thanks!

PET shows the rack for 87 & 88 944's as part # 944 347 011 22 and for '89 and up 944's and all 968's part # 944 347 011 24.

I would think that it should still work for you.

The tie rods also come up as different for the 968 and 944. So, I'd advise against buying a rack not made for your car

The rack itself would work I don't know about the tie rod ends.

Well, I got the rack, boots and tie rods. It the thing mounts up and the lines attach then I figure the tie rods can be adjusted to fit.

I was hoping that the change was in pump pressure or road feel or something along those lines.

I wonder what was revised on the 968 steering rack as opposed to the 944's rack

Did the steering rack today. And the engine mounts. And O2 sensor. And front rotors with a bearing re-pack. Me and my son. 8:30 up, 8:30 down. Did stop for lunch and dinner.

Apparently no difference I could see between the outgoing rack and the incoming 968 rack. Same tie rods and boots. Bolted right up. I checked for lock-to-lock turns and that was the same as well.

Stig, Your avatar is distracting.
