Anyone have a used frame for the early cars in black?

My last boot was a bit too small and ended up tearing the frame clips out when shifting in reverse.

I just got an AGLA boot/**** combo. I like the look and feel. The **** is different than the stock one. It is a solid rubber and it just presses onto the shifter. It doesn't use the little clip. The boot is already tucked into the top of the **** so you don't have to mess with stretching and gluing. The cap popped right in. It took all of 2 minutes to install it.

Available In: Leather/Vinyl/Tweed Cloth/Suede/Steel Mesh(**** only)

Zach,
You have the right idea. I've made trim pieces and related stuff for years. One suggestion though, take a flat bladed scraper and remove a bit of the nubs on the suede side (inside) right at the place where the leather tucks under the cap and down the ****. If the leather is relieved a bit at that point it will really help smooth out when you try to reinstall the cap. Another tip is to install form fitting leather wet and shrink it with a heat gun when you are happy with the fit. FWIW I bought a vinyl Rennbay boot for the 83 and was not impressed with the fit. This is not a diss on Travis' fine company and service, he's been good to me, it was just too loose and spins around the area right below the ****.

Cool- I can certainly do that...this is actually the FUN part of car restoration- creating your own unique, one-off piece that looks so OEM that others simply wonder how they "missed" that purchase!

Dilberto,

How about a grey leather shift boot, can that be created?

944pete,

Where did you get the AGLA and what was the cost of it?

Paragon has them. I think they're around $75 for the boot/**** combo.

I have a used factory 944 red leather covered **** and leather boot in good condition and for sale.. I bought it off e-bay and used it until I received my Alan Gunn black leather boot. I think the Rennbay boots are vinyl. Check the rubber boot under the leather one, if it has a hole, it will let hot air dry out the leather boot in one spot and it will rip after a while. I'll take US $35 plus shipping for my red shift **** and boot. PM message me if you want it, I'm in Canada.

I've got to replace the **** on my 86 951, but the boot is fine. The person who owned it before me put on a new boot and **** that look great, the **** is carbon fiber and, of course, vibrates. It's making me crazy! Can anyone recommend a new **** that won't vibrate, fits in with the stock-look of the car and is not too expensive?

I have a factory **** with a black Rennbay boot and a black plastic shift cap. $20+ shipping. Local pickup preferred.

Here's a pic:
