As an everyday driver I would tire quickly of commuter traffic in the 951. For our frequent forays into the hills the 951 is the King of Road Cars. Sure they have their little bugs and troubles but that's what God made metric tools for. In short, I love it.

I have been considering a Turbo.. but the NA power of the S2 in the mid RPMs is alluring.. anyone out there own both and have a say?

TIA

Stock vs stock, id take the s2 anyday. But with a few hundred dollars in mods, the 951 becomes a completely different animal. Its popularity is directly proportional to its moddability.

Here is a nice list from AAP about what makes the 944 special, and not so special.
"
- The sound the door makes when closing, always identifiable as a 944 by
this alone
- As with 911, the trigger door handles
- The way the fenders flare over the wheels
- The fact that there is not one straight line on the body
- On 1985.5+, the way the trip odometer reset button is in the dash vent
- The fact that without proper training, the heating/vent system is useless
- The fact that I can touch the shifter and steering wheel at the same time
with one hand
- Of course, I love the almost 50/50 weight balance...
- Which allows for incredible handling
- Even though this isn't about HP,
I like the way that I can outrun American V8s with my German inline 4
- The way people (not Porsche enthusiasts) ask me "Is that a '96, 97, 98,
etc..."
- The way that thing sounds at 5500 rpm under hard acceleration
- The way that thing stops after hard acceleration
- On pre 1985.5s, the way the dash is laid out with three gauges in your
face
- The little rotating Porsche crest covering the glove box lock
- Of course, the way people's heads turn as the car goes by
- I even like the way the valves tick a little

The Draw backs.

The way the motor shakes like a wet dog at idle because the motor
mounts have dried, cracked, and leaked their fluid
-The buzz of various hard plastic interior pieces as they age
-The Ironman-effort clutch
-The way the shifter moves like a broomstick though molasses
-The dull patina of oxidizing paint
-The intricate tapestry of cracks in rock-hard leather
-The Russian-roulette suspense of wondering what moment the gauges
will choose to go dead (again)
-The rear-end sag of semi-trailing arm suspensions
-The sound of valves ramming into pistons because (choose one) the
tensioner failed, or the water pump failed and leaked coolant on to
the belt
-Various electrical faults - often sporadic and untraceable
-Oil leaks
-Water leaks
-Rattles
-The joy of emptying your wallet into the hands of a "technician" so
that you may bask in the glow of his arrogance as he adds up the cost
of replacing the never-ending list of failed seals, joints,
connectors, etc, etc... "

I love my 951 enough to buy another one. I think I am going to buy a track only car when I get out of school. I am retarded enough to spend an entire year living well below my means to use half my income on a sic car. Maybe there will be a few cup cars for sale in 2.5 years :-).

"- The fact that without proper training, the heating/vent system is useless "

Pat, thats soo funny! HAHA. Lets ad dto that though, our cars have THE BEST HEATING system in the world! No car ive ever been in heats like a 944!!!! (whether you want it or not!) And lets not get started on the seat heaters...i mean...built-in-seat-grilling-kit.

I can't wait! Just one month left of winter time hibernation! I have some plans for spring! I can't wait! We're gonna be sportin' a slightly more aggressive look with a slightly more aggressive sound...I can't wait for March!
