Wasn't this tape (an older guy with white hair/mustache, and a white lab coat) only covering timing belt tension, and not the replacement?

That means he doesn't cover marking the balance shaft sprockets/belt.

Changing the t-belt on these cars is very straight forward. There are so many writeups online about it, that a video is simply unnecessary. A little more than a year ago, the only maintenance I've ever performed was changing the oil on my moms car. Since then, ive done 2 belt jobs, using nothing but common hand tools. Use common sense and you shouldn't get any bent valves. Good luck.

I think a video is a great idea for novices - the PCA should produce some. The Rolls-Royce Owners Club has some great videos on RR maintenance that I bought when I had a Rolls. Great way to familiarize yourself with the car. They also had videos of club tech seminars that were pretty good as well.

hi

i am glad to see that i am not the only one that thinks this is a good idea.
its all very well other people saying its easy but when you have never did a timing belt before and the implications of getting it wrong.
I think that having a DVD to watch on a laptop as your doing the job is a great way of learning also this could be a way of helping this site to pay for itself or at least go to wards it

anyway i am still hoping someone has a camera handy at the next timing belt party

I thought there was some software that you could convert NTSC to PAL. AFAIK it is just a FPS issue. I will search, but VirtualDub and TMPEnc come to mind.

I would be glad to make a video of a t-belt change as long as someone lets me borrow a digital cam and fresh belts ...someone would have to step in for the tensioning part however, as i dont use P9201. Ill use the kriket for my 3rd belt change..since the 3rd time is always the charm.

Default Hello

Hi, I found this old thread while searching to see if anyone has made any videos on how change the belts and waterpump on a 944.

I recently had the opportunity to pick up an 87 944 with 52,000 miles from a family friend for a very low price and have been reading up on as much information as I can about maintaining the car. The maintenenance records show no records of timing belt or waterpump changes and I am at the point where I am not willing to start the car for fear of snapping my belt after reading all the horror stories and warnings on these forums.

I am a poor college student and I can barely save up enough money to get myself a complete belt and pump kit and maybe the special tools sold by Bruce on his wesbite. However I am a complete novice when it comes to cars and even with all the detailed and hepful instructions from Clarks garage and these forums, I really think an actual video of the procedure would be really helpful in doing the job myself. If anyone has made such a video or is doing their 30K maintenance sometime soon, I would be willing to pay shipping and a reasonable fee to record the procedure.

Also, has anyone personally seen the old VHS tape sold on Performance Products for $40 or so? Maybe this would work but it seems really short and expensive. Thanks for your help.

A video would be nice. I've read up a lot on the belt changes, but actually seeing it happen with a step by step would be more in depth. Would it ever be possible for one of you belt changing veterans to make a video and upload it to rapidshare?

There are some short clips on Arnworx site. Great guy to deal with and some great tools.
