Seriously though, be safe and thank you!

God bless and look over you and your company, and keep you all safe....There are are lot of Canadians like me who are grateful for the US involvement in Iraq and Afganistan. Do not believe all you hear from Canadian polititians from our Government, they are from the East, those of us in the West hate them,

Pete: Godspeed and may you and your comrades be kept out of harms way.

mbonner: Thanks for the Canadian West comments. I work with contractors from BC and a group from Quebec; you would think they live in different countries based on their views of US involvement in the Middle East.

Certainly Albertan's are more right wing than the rest of the country in general, that's the way they vote. That may be why that province attracts more right-wing immigrants like Mr. Bonner. But I very much doubt the majority in BC supports Bush's war in Iraq.

Question for US listers. Do you think it's possible to be against the war in Iraq and patriotic at the same time? I get the impression thgere's a bit of a chill on questioning foreign policy, and that's scary.

This isn't the right forum but here's my take on it all. Whether you support the war or not is not as important as supporting our troops even if you diagree with the reason for their deployment. The most important thing for any member in the Armed Forces in a combat zone is knowing you have people pulling for your safe return. Nothing is worse than knowing that no one cares. It's not about the who's right who's wrong; you are 'in country' and that's the way it is and that's the way you were trained.

I was drafted in the highest draft call of the Vietnam War (April 68). I didn't agree with the whole concept and purpose but did my job. Being spit on at SFO while in uniform coming home at the end of my tour was not the welcome I looked forward to.

As far as "being patriotic and being against the war" it is not an oxymoron; that's the purpose of free speech in the first place. No party holds the lock on patriotism.

Pete needs our full support and blessings...I'm sure given a choice he would rather not go but that's a soldiers life and I thank him for his contribution!

Off my Box.
