Default The last 924/944/968

The last of the bunch is up for sale: the last 968 on eBay. I remember reading the Excellence article on this car awhile back -- it seems pretty genuine.

Maybe the last coupe, but I don't know if it was the last 968. Mine wasn't sold until June 96, I don't remember in the article if this was before or later.

Is there a difference between the last one sold in the US and the last one made to US spec? I would prefer the latter if I was a collector. I guess thats what he meant.

Damian, is your vin a later vin or did the cabs use a different sequence?

1) I would, too, Tom.

2) Yes, the cabs did, in fact, use a different sequence.

If so, why the heck isn't he selling it here? He'd probably (1) get more for it and (2) know it's going to a real enthusiast, not just some poseur with some spare money.

Nice to see the matching yellow Redline bolt-in rollbar. Nice touch!

The VERY LAST 9er ever to roll off the Neckarsulm Werk plant was a Cinnabar Red 944S2 in April 13th, 1992.

Question

Okay, I am a bit confused about this lovely car's serial number. In the eBay advert the serial number is 318. However, both 968.net and Peter Morgan's book state that only 258 coupes were imported to the U.S. and Canada in 1995. Also, 366 cabs came to our shores; therefore, the serial number would have fit nicely within those numbers. Another point of interest: no coupes were for RoW in 1995, but 531 Club Sports were made for RoW. (I wish the U.S. would have gotten them! )

Any thoughts as to why the serial # is 318, when, according to two sources, only 258 were allegedly shipped to the U.S.?

Someone at 968.net had an answer to this back when that Excellence article came up -- but I remember it had something to do with the first 60 VINs being reserved for Porsche -- so 61 was the first of the year -- making 318 the last US-spec coupe of the year.

Well, that clears it up! Thanks!

It has a Rennlist sticker on it because it belongs to a Rennlist member. I believe it belongs to Rich Tillotson, who also owns a blue 968 Club Sport.

There could be a huge difference between production dated vs sales date. This car was obviously custom ordered by a person, with special paint to sample color. I'm sure the day it hit the dealer it was picked up. My car was ordered by the dealer, and it sat around in the showroom not sellling for over a year (speed yellow not being very popular then, plus it was 50K+). My car was built 3/94, delivered 5/96!

Just having a Rennlist sticker should raise the approximate value at least 15%.

Damian, mine sat on the dealers lot for 5 months..my date of manufacture, April 1988..one of the last of it's kind as well.

Is the car's value diminished by not having all the parts (such as the seats) to restore it to stock (at least in appearance)?
