don't want to but have to....
I have to sell my '86 944. I need the money. Got a little crazy last year and bought just about anything I wanted. Now I have to pay for my wedding and need to pay off my debt.
So, I have been researching to find the value of my car, and I have found a wide range of prices. What is a reasonable asking price for my car? '86 944na, aprox. 59,000 original miles, automatic, no cracks in the dash or seats, no rust, plenty of life left on the tires, receipts back to 2000.

If you haven't put in more $ into the Porsche than it's worth than you either haven't had it long enough or you don't drive it enough!
I'd say $5000, maybe $6000 off the top of my head. For reference I bought my car with 41k orig. miles with perfect mechanicals and dinged exterior and wet rotted driver's seat from rain for $4k two years ago. I paid a fair amount but it wasn't a deal by any means. The 944 is more desirable and the auto trans opens up the market, but also closes it for others. The limited paper trail also hurts, people pay big bucks for the accurate history of the car, especially if it's from the sale date.
Just my .02 Good luck selling if you have to. I imagine you'd get a great response from autotrader.com.

The automatic is the problem, it kills the value. It's been mentioned in a lot of posts that location is a deciding factor in the value of a 944 and I've added that the NYC area is at the expensive end of the range, a clean NA here can bring $6-7000 with a 5 speed but an auto won't go for much more than half that amount. There's a little used car place up the street from me, they have a VERY clean 924S automatic with 63k on the clock, asking price is $4900, it's been there for over a year and at that price it will be there for a while longer.

Sorry to say, Rochester isn't the best market for a local sale. I grew up in the Finger Lakes, and have friends that now work and live in Rochester.
I would bet you get 3 or 4K for it, and that sucks... but that's the market right now.

WAY too nice to part out.. did you try Rennlist classifieds??
The auto is a nice daily driver- I should know. It can always be converted to manual.
I would think 5-6K is about right.

Sorry you have to sell it. My father-in-law may be looking for one. He lives in Canadaigua so he's close. I called him about it and emailed him the link to your autotrader ad.

You CAN get 5k. But you will have to wait a very long time for the right buyer. Auto 944s are fairly hard to sell, and they are valued less than manual cars. Put it up for 4500 and work your way down from there.
