I take it that you and Serge aren't the biggest fans of Excellence?

What makes you think that? On the contrary, Excellence is better than reading Vanity Fair or Good Housekeeping, no?

I think we can definitely agree upon that! However, for me, at this point, Excellence is my favorite magazine. That may change, however, as I am going to give 911 and Porsche World a shot.

We only like excellence because there are very few porsche publications available in the US. I must admit, some of the articles are incredibly interesting. However, the large number of crappy articles outweighs them. As does very little early watercooler coverage. Remember the article about the black 944 n/a some guy bought...caused so much hype from you guys. "OMG, 944 coverage." Shouldnt be like that...

My fav magazine, a few years back, was Car and Driver. Very well written and John Philips is my fav car mag writer.

I wish they had more 944 coverage also but let's be realistic. The newest 944 is 13 years old now. The newest 968 is 9 years old and wasn't exactly built in huge numbers. Every day there are fewer and fewer 944's on the road.
Their purpose is to sell magazines and there are quite a few more 911 owners than 944 owners. 911 owners also belong to a higher income group which is a greater benefit to Excellence's advertisers.
They do, however, have plenty of water cooled coverage...986's and 996's.
I still enjoy the magazine as I do all things Porsche.

Very well put, Pete, and I fully agree with you.

I understand why excellence selects the current content. That doesn't mean I have to like it. I still read it at the book store monthly, but i wouldn't pay for it.

That's why I am kinda hesitant to subscribe, but all in all, I wish I could "selectively subscribe"- there have been a few times when I've hoped that when I pick up a copy, I will see some eighties watercooled content. And sometimes when I don't, I can justify not buying it. If I had a subscription my cat's litter box would get more use out of the ads for 19" rims and GT3 bodywork. I mean, not all 911 content is boring, it's just that the content is not so helpful. Like, who cares if they can get 600hp or more from a twin turbo 996? This is not so relevant to me (but this is to the paying subscriber who owns one and is a regular consumer of most of the advertiser's goods).

Yes, my car is 21 years old, but this is irrelevant as there are 911s, 912s and even 930s that are older, but cumulatively that's why there are more owners. The 924-944 series produced a lot of cars though (thankfully for the company) like 300,000 or something?! As far as there being more owners on the road, this is an obvious observation due to the amount of years the 911 (an overgrown volkswagen) was/is produced, but I will agree that there are probably more owners with fat wallets actaully on the road. My wallet is skinny (today), but it's good for us because we can pick up the cars we like for mere "chump change". The 86 that I just picked up cost me 700.00 vs 3500.00 I spent in 2001 for an early, rough around the edges MY83. And the 86 is in great condition! (exception rather than the rule, I know)...

One note of companision though, anyone ever look to how many posts/replies there are for our forum? It outranks any other section (maybe because they are divided into differnet sections?)... Certainly there has to be a market for the 944 guys that Excellence takes into consideration, how to explain better coverage in 911 and Porsche World (and how come those guys can have "Porsche" in the title of the mag? what up wit dat)

Default Yikes! Subscription to "911 and Porsche World" would cost $127.00....

I looked into subscribing to 911 and Porsche World, but wow, it would be $127.00 for Airmail or $98.00 for economy mail... I have never seen it at any of my local bookstores, either. So, where do you guys pick up your copies?

Barnes $ Noble and Borders both carry it here.

It's about $7 an issue for about $84/ year from the bookstore. Why pay for shipment from the UK?

I fully agree. I'll have to check Barnes & Noble next time I go. I may have just missed it in the past.
