Default Yellow Paint Code?

I see a very few 944's in a "speed yellow" color. Was wondering what the paint code is as I am interested in painting my 951 this color.

on that note, if I were to give a paint shop Porsche's code for Gaurd's red, can they mix it for me?

I'm not sure If i understand....is that some sort of true question or just a demeaning, snide remark?

This site is pretty good for paint codes:

http://www.sherwin-automotive.com/fo...car_finder.cfm

I searched under 1995 as I know Speed Yellow was offered in that year.

It gives 2 codes, 12G and 12Q, not sure what the difference is.

EDIT: Stahlblau beat me to it. I guess they all start with 'L', mine is 39V on the Sherwin site and L39V on the car.

There were no 944's ever painted by Porsche in Speed Yellow. The earliest you'll see on 4 cyl waterpumpers are 94 and 95 968's, unless it was a 'paint to sample' 92-93 (in the US). Euro 968's may have been available earlier, I seem to remember some CS's in earlier years.

In the mid 90´s Porsche switched to water based paint, that accounts for the final letter being different on paint codes.

www.paintscratch.com also has plenty of codes.

thanks guys, yea sorry i didnt know if that was someone being sarcastic in the first post there--i see it so often on message boards.

i see that there were no yellow 944's, ill just have to use the code from a '95.

damian-- it looks like a friend with some experience wants to help me out; we are just going to remove the old paint, prime it up, and repaint the car out here. anything will look better than that shoddy-*** job the last owner did. you should make a stop out here this sunday: im prepping the motor to be pulled.

THis Sunday Brett, Paul, and I are going out to Elf's house.....Maybe after we could cruise on over...
At your parents house right....? I dont think its such a good idea for you to just start hacking it out, The paint on your car isnt that bad, that you need to just hack it out again.....instead of worrying about the paint first, why not get the car runnin good and fix all the small piddly crap with the car first...? Even I would just hang tight on the paint job till spring...

There are a few people who favor using a different yellow instead of Speed Yellow. SY seems to be very hard to match (even by dealer body shops) if you ever have collision work done. Besides myself, I know of one other person who painted their 944 yellow and used a different make's color. Drive around to dealerships and see what you like.
