Default I am officially removing all motor mount complaint priveledges from this group

We have nothing to complain about...I just finished the motor mounts on my 540. Started at 1000hrs it is now 1600 hrs. Let me make you feel better, it requires removal of:

Upper radiator hose
Vaccum supply to brake booster
Remote oil filter canister
Alternator
Power Steering pump
an so many little parts you cant count.

Still want to feel better? That is only the drivers side, yep, one side requires all of that!!!!! Claus, the Sadist, was at it again on this beast.

Book time 1.2 for passenger side, 3.5 for both. Let me tell you if I was a tech I would be praying for passenger side, it takes about 10 mins to remove and replace. AHHHHH, just needed to share and let you know that while our cars are not great in the engineering dept, it could always be worse!

While our cars can be tedious at times, im surprised how simply and straight forward most maintenance jobs are. Even doing a belt job doesn't require much more than will and a set of tools.

(And yes, ive never had to change the clutch or re index my torsion bars )

That sounds pretty lousy. Big BMWs were always a hassle to work on, even the old 2800 CS and 3.0 CS were surprisingly complex and challenging to maintain. A friend of mine has been resuscitating a 633 CSI for quite a while now, and I don't envy him. His car still has the self leveling suspension, which actually works. His must be the only one on the planet that still functions. I don't know WTF they were thinking when they designed that mess. I guess that it could be worse...

Reminds me of my chevy Monza that I had when I was in College. Came stock from the factory with a V8. You had to undue the motor mounts and remove the steering linkage to change the spark plugs! Only car I ever worked on that took almost 5 hours just to change the plugs.
