Living in central Indiana, I don't get too many opportunities to really enjoy myself. These cars weren't built for long staight roads.
I've discovered some really amazing roadways this summer in the southern third of the state and have been taking any opportunity I can to get back down there. I took a 700 mile roadtrip about a month ago all within the state of indiana and stayed at a couple state parks along the way. That was the most fun I've had in a while.
So, I'm proposing a roadtrip/camping weekend for those of you in the area. I can work out a route once I get an idea of who is interested and whatever time constraints they may have. Hell, I'm up for anything from a two day trip to a four day weekend. A few roads that I really like are the "Ohio River Scenic Byway", "Chief White Eye Trail"(SR 62 from Madison to Dillsboro), and SR 135 south of Nashville, IN.
The only Porsche owners I know so far are Jerad and Micah Jones (best friend since high school). I figure I need to meet more of you and I can't think of a better way to do it.
I think the best time to do this would be early to mid October, but that could even stretch to early November if necessary.

hey guys - my girlfriend grew up in (and her family still lives in) batesville, in. there are some great roads there and its just off I74. in addition to some of the best fried chicken in oldenburg (wagners or kochs - oh, and dollar beers...) you'll find 229 between oldenburg and brookville to be a nice collection of tight turns, beautiful scenery and great road surfaces. another part of 229 from oldenburg thru batesville and continuing to napoleon is realllllly nice. also because of the huge tax base out there (thank you Hillenbrands...) you'll be hard-pressed to find a gravel road out in the county - they're all paved and FUN.

Alright, I'll throw out some ideas. The first may be rather ambitious, but it's a good starting point that covers many of my favorite routes and suggestions from some other people.
I have a pretty flexable job and it's not too hard to get a Friday and Monday off. How about the rest of you? If you're really interested, which weekends are good and which are bad. Micah, when does resistance training start again?
#1 Four Days:
Day 1: Meet in Indy, Bloomington, or Columbus and head to Nashville. Take 135 S to 58 W to 37 S to 150 W to 145 S. Camp at Patoka Lake.
Day 2: 164 W to the German town of Jasper. 231 S and make our way Evansville to pick up 66 E (Ohio River Scenic Byway). Follow Byway to Wyandotte Caves and camp here.
Day 3: Continue to New Albany with a stop at Falls of the Ohio State Park. Continue on to Madison and camp at Clifty Falls. There is lots to see and do at Clifty Falls.
Day 4: 62 E (Chief White Eye Trail) to Dillsboro, 262 E to Rising Sun, 56 E to Lawrenceburg, 1 N Brookeville, 52 W to 229 S to Batesville or Napoleon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
#2 Two Days:
Day 1: Start again Somewhere around Nashville and take 135 S to 58 W to Bedford, 37 S to 64 W to 145 S. Hit Ohio River Scenic Byway in Tell City. Continue East and camp at Wyandotte Caves.
Day 2: Continue to New Albany with a stop at Falls of the Ohio State Park. Continue on to Madison. Take 62 E (Chief White Eye Trail) to Dillsboro, 262 E to Rising Sun, 56 E to Lawrenceburg, 1 N to Brookeville, 52 W to 229 S to Batesville or Napoleon.
I live in Rushville and just bought a 911. I know all the roads you are talking about. Let me know when time gets closer. My car will be back from the shop, this week, next week, maybe sometime soon, before it snows. I cant wait to drive it on some good roads. bill
If we met in columbus, then headed to nashville on 46, that is the stretch of 46 I was talking about...
The multiday thing sounds sweet except for the fact that i go to this hard core engineering school, Rose-Hulman, that never gives us a day off to do anything like that :'(
I could do it on a weekend and just do one of the days of the cruise.
EDIT: Ok so I lied... lol.. that stretch of road is btw nashville and bloomington
I think a 3 day trip would be best with the third day being optional. I'll suggest October 9 - 11, which is Saturday - Monday. October 11th is Columbus day, which I have off as a holiday.
That four day route that I listed included extra time for site-seeing and could easily be done less than 3 full days. Should I shorten the route a little?
Anyone been on SR 66 between Evansville and Tell City? Is it worth the extra driving? I know it's pretty awesome east of Tell City through the Hoosier National Forest.
wombat: I assume your edit means you're suggesting meeting in Bloomington (and I agree, 46 is better Bloomington to Nashville).
That sounds good to me. Anyone comming from a longer distance could stay at Brown County or McCormick's Creek State Parks or Yellowwood State Forest on Friday Night. All are really close to Bloomington
