Are any special tools needed to remove fronts struts?
Hey guys,
Im installing a set of H&R springs and Im wondering if I need any special tools to remove any of the bolts other then a socket set. Are the stock springs under alot of pressure. Can I pop them out and install the H&R's without a spring compressor? thanks for the feedback

use a spring compressor and an impact wrech to make it easiest, otherwise a 19mm 60 degree offest box wrech and a vice grip may work. I couldn't get it to work for more than the first one though... take them to a garage locally they may let you use the impact for free for that one top bolt!

actually...i always use an impact and lay the strut on its side and loosen the top nut and let the spring pop loose, it actually will only slide about a foot and isnt a missle like you may think.. install is easier because the spring is shorter, but taking it apart by hand is tricky cus the shaft spins.

Actually, I have found it easier to remove the stock springs without using a spring compressor at all. Just use an impact wrench and a deep socket over the main nut. The force of the spring pushing up against the upper perch helps to prevent the strut from just spinning as you try to loosen the nut. By the time the nut is ready to come off, the spring is hardly compressed at all, so it's not like the perch goes flying off dangerously or anything. I have done this with both regular 944 struts and S2 struts.
