Unhappy Need HELP now!!! I'm pulling a 924S motor and I'm stymied

I am pulling the motor from an automatic '88 924S and I've got the motor hanging in midair, with absolutely nothing connected to the motor other than inside the bell housing. For the life of me I can get it loose. I've removed the starter, dropped the crossmember, and all 4 bolts on the bell housing and I have a gap of an inch or two between the bell housing and motor all the way around and it won't go further. I even unbolted torque tube in hopes that it would separate between the bell housing and tube, but no luck there. What's the secret or am I'm just a doouff.... I have to return the lift tomorrow, so please heeeeellllppppp!!!!

Thanks for your reply!

There's an E clip at the end of the motor's side of the input shaft!

It's similar to a C clip except it has a center piece that makes it an E clip.

It snaps onto the input shaft just in front of the damper (part that is used instead of a clutch and pressure plate). The torque tube will not pull back until this clip is removed.

In order to get to it, you must unbolt the damper from the flywheel.

BTDT.......Paul's right, you need to reach thru the starter opening, remove all nine of the bolts aroung the starter ring/flywheel/damper, and only then will the engine seperate from the bell housing, leaving the damper on the front of the torque tube. So, you will be leaving the bell housing in the car with the damper on the torque tube, so bolt bellhousing back up to the torque tube. After you get engine seperated from the bellhousing (splitting at flywheel/damper), then, and only then, will you have access to that E-clip on the forward end of damper (you can't see it until its seperated). I hear you! I've mostly been doing 911's until this year and I can drop a 911 motor in about an hour and half....so this was an all day affair with no conclusion...very frustrating!!

THanks again!

I still don't know why Porsche uses that E clip, I'm always tempted not to reinstall it, but I always shrug my shoulders and think the "the Dr knows best".
