Default In: 924S Out: 968, The deal is done

I had the 968 for sale from almost day 1 of ownership, there were the wild ideas about a turbo swap into that car, but selling the major items to make that swap possible just wasn't going to happen on the time line that I needed. So anyway, a guy came to look at it the other day, and he drove up in a 924S, normally that wouldn't grab my attention, but the car was a sun roof delete car, so I let him know I would be interested as that car as a partial trade.

So a week later, we agreed on a price difference between the two cars and next tuesday the 924S will come home. Pictures will follow, but first let it be known that this is not a cherry 924S, the paint is bad, the dash is cracked, the seats will be replaced, but the car felt solid and has had many repairs in the last year (cluch, timing belt /h2o pump etc).

I think the motor / computers might be for sale in the not so distant future, the plans for a 951 motor swap are being explored (seeing as I have a complete 951 driveline just waiting to go into something).

I have been looking for a Winter project, 968 Turbo deemed to expensive, but this might just work.....

Congratulations, Ian! I hope that things go smoothly during the transition, and that one day I can see a completed 924 Carrera GTS replica in your garage!

Personally, I have complete faith that Ian does. The heavily modded turbo that I bought from him last month is an absolute dream machine, balanced in every way. From the seats to the brakes to the impeccable handling, sometimes the first thought I have in the morning upon waking is that of getting behind the wheel once more! Heck, if he keeps it up, he's going to be the Louis Ruf of the 944 line!

I think I can get my hands a 87 924S DME- If you wish I could resolder it for you prior to installation.

The 924S will get some props!! Congrats

UDpride,

Well to say that i'm 100% sure what i'm doing would be a big lie, there are many issues with this project that i'm not too sure on. I hope to find some guidance so I can fix the 3 main problems I can think of:

1) Wiring: This is the huge issue in my mind, I have the parts to make it work, but I just need to figure out how to put it all together.

2) Transmission: I know this can be solved, converting the car over to the later transmission mounting system.

3) Intercooler: Not sure if it will fit under the stock sized nose pannel

I know it can be done, i'm sure it has been done before, but I'll try to do it with my own little touch.

Yeah, but he could leave the early spindles on there and still have the proper set-up for the 924 speedo, or tap the 951 spindle to accept the sender.

Chris,

Pictures will come this weekend, after I take a buffer to the car, it won't help where the car was keyed many years ago, but I need to get at least a little luster out of the old faded paint.

Tifo,

The car will remain with the stock spindles for at least a little while, it all depends on how things go going forward, if I come accross some hubs / spindles off a 951 then I'll try and pick them up, but I'm going to try and make this as simple as possible at first. Too many issues to tackle as is.....

sounds like a cool project! i doubt it has been done before, seems the only people that want these cars are either fanatical about keeping it stock or putting a 350 in it. i'm still patiently waiting to get another place, one with a dang garage so i can start my project. diehards will hate what i wanna do, but i plan on keeping it as "porsche" as possible. i, for one, am really interested in following this so post updates as available please. good luck.

btw, this is a stupid q i know, but on the 968 do the headlights flip up when turned on or do they stay back against the body?
