The 3 VINS I know of are on the A pillar, the engine bay side of the firewall, and the interior side of the firewall.

I don't think the owner will want me pulling the dash, so where you thinking for the third?

Hatch option code sticker-thats what I was thinking- it also has the vin. I want to make sure all 3 match.

and of course the ususal questions- WP, belts, motor mounts, clutch, receipts, etc.

My plan is to fly in and drive back- the mechanical shape would have to support such a trip.

You got it. I'm about to leave to take part in a running shoe study (first day, lots of tests and stuff), so can you e-mail the seller and tell him I'll be in touch this afternoon to arrange a time?

After your PM and assessment I'll pass. I truly appreciate your time and effort on this- I'll get you back someday. THe price has gone over my currrent "porsche fund" limit- I'm better off to wait and purchase a better example. I wouldnt have enough cash in the bank and would have to bootsrtap it right now.

If anyone is interesed in a 951 (inexpensive) here's the listing. It's in Houston. Currently at 3801$- It's probably worth that in parts.

Since Chris is no longer in the running, I'll give the short version of my assessment in case anyone is interested.

IMHO, this is a 25' car. Recent repaint. Very poor paint job. Overspray under hood, poor and lazy masking (painted the black "Porsche" script door handles). Some dents and cracks in paint.

I didn't drive it on the street because the husband wasn't there. Didn't feel comfortable taking by myself in case of an accident or something happening to the car. But, clutch, brakes, gearshift all feel fine.

AC blows cold. Lights all seem to work fine including headlights and fogs. Poorly repaired left taillight. Clock doesn't work. Oil pressure gauge doesn't appear to work. H2O gauge is fine. 13v on voltmeter. "!" light on instrument cluster lit up. Could not confirm boost. I drove it in the parking lot and wasn't getting on it to speak of, but I would think it should have read some boost. Boost gauage may be bad on dash.

Overall condition is OK. Probably safe to drive long distance. But, I think this is one of those cheap cars that won't be so cheap. IMHO it's one that will bleed your bank account to get it really decent, starting with a proper paint job. If I were looking for a 951 for a track car, this would be a good one. If I were looking for one for a road car, I'd pass and find one in better shape and protect my bank account. This is all in my limited twice over on the car, but my assessment of bleeding the bank account is one I think is probably pretty accurate. A shame. Sad thing is, it would probably have been worth more if it didn't have the poor repaint.

Here is a photo of the options tag in case someone is interested.
