I bought my 944 with a Sony Explode head and front speakers in it. All I can say is that I can't wait to change the whole stereo system. The head isn't bad I guess, but the speakers aren't so hot.

Unfortunately stereo upgrade is like project number 25 of 50 for me.

Yeh but her headlights look better than mine

Yes, I have heard from many sources that the sony speakers suck.
I will have to see what other resources my friend has for speakers...

Before going out and buying stuff...you should decide on how much power you want to push. Once you decide that, buy the best sub you can buy in that that RMS range..then the speakers,amp..etc. Just make sure to match your speakers/ amp by continous power not max. I've seen too many blown subs due to being underpowered. ....and of course, buy an alarm!!! That said, buy Alpine!!!!

Good info clint...I do know the science behind the installation, just not the products.

I think if I overkill the amp a bit all should be fine.

And HEY! Whats wrong with the stock alarm!

Interesting. I'll be the dissenter here. I have 4x6 Xplod's in the front and I'm very impressed. I think the $30 price tag helped a bit (slightly used... but seemingly perfect condition), and maybe the fact that my right ear can't deal with deep bass, but ****, the sound quality blows the old speakers out of the water (Kenwoods or something). Hell I even like the fact that they match my car!

I have xplode headunit.. I think the alpine in the RR was a little better, but that was with different speakers, and completely different acoustics.

Right now i'm running Xplod CD head unit, 6x9 RX97 Boston Acoustic 3 way rears, and 4x6 Boston acoustic plate speakers (dont remember model, check my cardomain in sig for exacts)...

I think it sounds great. No need for a sub right now, although i would eventually like one.

Hey, my last range rover went about 250k with basically no problems.. until the tranny and engine went... and that was because the timing chain was 150k old.. :P they are pretty reliable.. just the electrics and crap suck.. Damn lucas.

i am an audio expert and can say that w/o guilt.. xplod is designed to EXPLODE, the amps are garbage and their rating is at the most peak you can imagine, the decks are crap.. I would reccomend Rockford for a amP/sub or kicker, then pioneer/pansonic for a head unit.. and a nice ultimate amp to handle speakers, maybe a premier amplifier as well

i bought infiniti's top line and believe it or not.. the original blaupunkts are better.. not as loud but crisper.. and they're 20 yrs old

you want a full MB Quartz component set-up with 2x ultimate 5x7's in the back, you want one 10" kicker solobaric sub, a alpine mrv-style amplifier and a nice panasonic head unit and that's about 2000 for what i described right there, you can go with a alpine component, stick with the blaunpunkts in the back. go with a rockfod spl1-110 in a box and an ultimate amp and a alpine head for about 1400.. depends on what you wanna spend my friend!

this is all cdn pricing, i have no idea what american pricing is like for audio

slowazz. interesting. my sony unit has been absolutely the opposite in performance youve described. it takes anything i throw at it. the matching cd changer has been equally flawless after 5yrs. im not really pro sony, but i think it sounds better than my dads Mark Levinson system in his car. the tuner is unreal. i feel like i can pick up Bangkok public radio. this is where ive always been most impressed. would I buy another? No idea. I never look at the decks when I listen to em at an audio shop. Ill pick 5-6 I like then hear the same CD track on all of em and let my ears decide. I think at the time I toted in the Yanni Acropolis CD. Yeah, make big jokes folks. Go ahead. I thought it was a good CD though to demo a wide range of sounds and instruments.

I will now crawl back into my hole.

OK Heres where I stand.....mere hours before purchase.

Deck - Sony (seems like most that have actually HAD one liked it)

Speakers - Sony FOR NOW only. They will be upgraded later (anyone want to buy some used sonys )

AMP - overkill or wait for a fosgate

Sub - why bother if I don't have the right amp and def. not sony.
