I found a euro front bumper and was wondering if you all thought that $200 was a fair price? how much did anyone else pay for theirs? It is the rear factory one, not the fiberglass, I am excited!
Also, do i need to buy euro lights with it or can something else fit? XSBOOST< do you still have any off the solid mounts?

 

is it a rear or front??? I paid like 275 for my front w/ all hardware and lights, although i deleted most of it. No i dont have any more mounts and my guy has still never gotten back w/ me so i guess its off. The factory euro bumpers WERE fiberglass so if its not then i dont know what your looking at.

I have a friend with a genuine 83 euro edition, imported from Germany, and his front bumper is made of either aluminum or steel. Seems too heavy to be aluminum, but doesn't seem to rust at all.
I always thought his car had the correct euro bumper, and the fiberglass ones were a knock-off.

 

My Euro (produced in 1982 for 83 market) had an aluminum front bumper with fiberglass segments just where the bumper "rolls"... where the bumper blends to the orginal bumperettes and the driving light housing area.
I, too, though it was the standard - but then have seen several articles about the Euro front end and believe that mine (which is authentic stock) must have been a special addition for the Saudi market in which it was sold.
It's good to hear of a genuine German edition with the aluminum... I wish I could get some stats on how many of those aluminum bumpers were made.

Almost forgot: Zero10, I think it's so heavy because it's remarkably thick aluminum - could be 1/4 inch, can't remember exactly without looking.

 

I'm waiting on Pics, hopefully soon, anyone know of a good source for lights for these bumpers? It is indeed aluminum, and I think that is factory, any euro guys want to chime in?

The bulbs are a snap - you can find them at nearly all auto parts stores.
The lense though, if you want the original, isn't easy to find in the states. I've been waiting three weeks for the Porsche North America dealer parts database to locate one... they said that they found one right away, but it ended up being the US lense.
It only matters to me since I only have to replace one of the two - if you could make it fit (likely), you could just use two US lenses off ebay (cheap source) or the dealer ($$$).

I have a correct and authentic "Euro" front bumper for a 924/924S with the actual Porsche parts sticker on it sitting in my basement right now. It is indeed entirely constructed out of fiberglass as is the factory rear bumper that I have as well. As far as I know, most if not all of the ones that a fellow I know imports into the US through Van Zweeden are fiberglass. That said, the PET lists several different part numbers for "Euro" bumpers depending on market and model. In fact, IIRC some of the "Euro" bumpers share the same part number with the US DOT bumpers which are constructed of aluminum. Again, I guess it depends on which market they are intended for.

A lister in Denmark called 944ZEN commented in a thread from about a year ago that the bumpers on his '84 944 is fiberglass, as was every other bumper he has seen on a 944 in his country. He also states that his bumper is mounted with fixed irons.

Check out the last page of the thread, one of the last posts. His car is beautiful. Also, checkout the Fuba antenna mounted on the fender. Interesting.

Manning, you've confirmed my comments earlier, which is good info (for me at least). As you infer, I believe that some of the RoW markets required Alum bumpers, or at least front bumpers.
I can add that I have never seen a Brittish (one 't' or two?) front bumper made of Aluminum.

Mine has the driving lights set in the bumper, not beneath it. So the part numbers would have to different from US bumpers.

Back on topic, momentarily, if anyone has a retail source for the lenses for Euro fog/driving lights, please let me know!

i checked my porsche books and it says that the euro spec cars had fiberglass bumpers, and the us had the aluminum 5mph bumpers-like we know- so the aluminum euro look bumpers must be from somewhere else...hm.

 

The only wild guess I can make is that the aluminum bumper like Jake has is specific to someplace like the middle east/asia market or the car was federalized and the US bumper was cleanly modified to accept bumper mounted driving lights. This would help to explain why his bumper is partially fiberglass.

Maybe some South African, Aussie or Kiwi listers can chime in with what they have on their cars regarding bumpers.

 

it looks fine alright. but what about the turbo front bumpers for an N/A i've seen them with N/A fenders, they look mighty spiffy and get rid of that warped plastic valance under the bumper too!
