Default What is with dealer prices on parts?

I went to my local dealer here in Atlanta to get a new ignition rotor for my 951. According to their parts guy.. "Porsche now only sells the rotor with the stub attachment because the rotors were spinning off cars.... it's $120." Baffled at the thought of $120 for an ignition rotor, I asked to see the revised part, hoping for a new design. It's the same thing they've used for 20 years except that Porsche now assembles it for you, complete with a little touch of white paint so you know the set screw dosen't move.

I laughed and said that I'd find one elsewhere where I can get the rotor itself. $120 for a $12 part and 11 cents worth of locktite. And Florida residents thought gas price gouging is bad right now.....

I posted about this a couple of months ago. With the rising Euro, dealer prices have become incredibly high. E.g.: that dumb plastic frame to hold the shift lever boot now costs around $50.

Personally, I think it's a form of hedging strategy by PCNA. In other words, they're charging more up front now to protect their bottom line from future increases in the Euro.

Congrats on the new job, btw.
