Default How far do you drive to work

Well, I ask cause I'm looking to move back to my home town. The only problem is that there are not a lot of places that do what I want to do (portfolio management). So I thinking of looking for a job here in Birmingham and driving back and forth (hour and half). Does anyone else drive this far? Am I nuts? Anyway heres the question......

How far do you drive to work and how long does it take you?

I drive 10 miles each way and it requires 20min on a good traffic day, and up to 30minutes on a bad traffic day.
I think that's just about as much as I would do every day - possibly 45minutes, but I'm not sure.

I know a lot of people who commute long-distances every day. I would say an hour and a half is feasible as long as you are willing.

Not to mention, driving the 944 makes it a lot more fun

I used to live 36 miles from work, and commuted by bicycle almost every workday (72mile round trip).

Fast forward 3 years.

Now I only live 9 miles from work, and am fat and lazy and drive. I suck .

I would think putting all those miles on your car would cost you in maintenance, and re-sale value.

My commute is 3 hours daily. 1 hour (round-trip) spent driving, the rest is on the train (thankfully). In general I don't mind the commute, I made a conscious decision to move out of the city to the country, but wanted to keep my city job.

FWIW, train pass is $170/month. At least I get to park for free.

odometer hasn't worked in years. If I do it I'm thinking of getting a hybrid car.

I'd like to add to my previous post. I would not mind commuting if it wasn't for the traffic. A 10 minute drive easily turns into a 50 minute drive on a regular basis here in Montreal.

I drive 13 miles. Not too bad, but I'm moving about 11 miles closer soonish.

I used to do just over an hour each way everyday for four years. And sometimes longer if my assignment placed me somewhere further. It wears on you man. You waste so much time of your life commuting...even when doing it in something fun like a P-car. Think about it. If you drive hour and a half one way, that 15 hours a week you could be doing something else! My company is moving from Center City to the burbs. My driving commute is going to be one hour one way again. I am trying so hard to get out before that...but don't know if I will. Not looking forward to that again.

I have about 11-12 miles each way. Been doing it for 5 years now and look forward to it every time in my old 1983 944. Wouldn't mind trying a motorcycle, though.

Even when its in a Porsche, 3 hours a day commuting is pretty silly IMHO.

Im 12 miles away from my workplace. I have made the trip in 15 minutes, and I think that included the time to walk across the parking lot. That trip.... I was doing about 110MPH in a 45MPH zone.... My usual commute is almost always about 25 minutes. Longer in the rain or if someone got in an accident.

Oh and last night my buddy and I were talking about using a pocket rocket bike as a commuter... $2 a week in gas

My commute is 47 miles one way, and it takes me about 50 minutes on a good day. I am blessed with a drive down some very scenic and twisty roads, so it is a real joy in the P-car. The speed limit is 50 MPH, but most of the traffic is doing 70-80. Usually not too much speed enforcement either during the commute.

Most days I don't mind the drive, but when there is an accident or bad weather it is really a bummer. The summer is awesome, since traffic is lighter and the weather is usually good. The next few weeks will be hell as all the school starts again and all the teachers and parents re-adjust their commute and clog up the roads.
