Work 30-40 min from my house. only part time. Once i'm at college I will be doing one 8 hour shift a week. Drive will be about 55 minutes with minimal traffic. more traffic, then im stuck a while.

I drive 16 miles one way. In atlanta traffic it can take 25 min at 6:30am or 40 min at 6:50. the ride home is 45min to 1hr15min depending on accidents, rain, sunshine and what day of the week it is.

When I lived in Pennsylvania my commute was 90-120 minutes one way but I was on a bus.

Then when I moved to New Jersey my commute was cut down to 45 minutes, but again on a bus.

Now my commute is about 3 minutes and although I'd love to ride my bike to work I'm always running late so I use the P-car on a daily basis. Funny how long the gas tank stays at 4/4 full.

If I had to do an 90 minute commute I would skip it. It's too easy to fall asleep and cause an accident. If you were on a bus or train that's a different story.

42 miles one way and it varies WILDLY depending on when I leave the house. When I leave at 0500 I am at the office by 0550 or so. If I leave at 0700 it might be 0900 or later. You dont even want to know about a Friday before a holiday.

Fridays before a long weekend are a mess. I might leave for a trip tomorrow, at 2PM. The traffic will be a mess for 120km down the highway, out into the country. I work on the edge of civilization as it is, the farms start not far past where I work... Hell one of the neighbors IS a farm.

Its all the goddamn campers THE LIMIT IS 100 BASTARDS, THAT MEANS YOU DONT DO 80 IN THE FAST LANE

And dont get me started on Americans ignoring the "slower traffic keep right" in the passing areas

30+ miles one way. Takes between 45 and 55 mins depending on the time of day/traffic. Route is down a nice twisty valley so I tend to get to work or home with a smile on my face .

3.5 miles to and from work. Unfortunately, Columbus's ever-strategic infrastructure funnels *all* of the traffic that has to cross the north stretch of I-270 through only five, maybe a sixth bridge/underpass. So my 3.5 miles can take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes.

I make up for this poor mileage/time ratio by putting over 400 miles on the car each weekend.

i would not be willing to spend 3 hours a day on the highway.

if you sleep 8 hours a night, then you're only left with 16 hours in your day. that means you'll be spending almost 20% of your life on the rode.

What else can you do with the time lost commuting?

Calculate your hourly wage based upon your yearly income + benefits. Then divide that hourly wage in half. That is the value of your non work time. Now multiply that rate by the total time you will spend commuting. Is it worth it?

42 miles each way, takes 1 hour to 1:20 each way.

I take as many windy, twisty country back roads as I can and it can be fun in the p-car. But still, I don't like wasting this much of my life driving back and forth to work. I can't do it indefinitely.

Around 5-7 miles each way. Just enough to get the car warmed up....

When not out in the field, I take an express bus 15 miles to work, nearly door-to-door service. Been doing this for 17 years or so. Keeps the mileage on my P-car less than 4K a year...but then again that's 4K of fun driving rather than idling in traffic. I figure I save over $2K/ year counting gas, parking, insurance, and blood pressure medicine. The bus doesn't have a cupholder either.

For 8 years I had it easy, 4 miles each way. My new job is 35 miles each way and the trip is usually 30-45 minutes, tonight though, someone tried to take a shortcut (through a guardrail) in a Saturn and I spent an extra 15 minutes on rt 80. It would be too much wear and tear on the 944 so I picked up a little pickup for the commute and home depot runs.
A previous job had me driving 70+ miles each way (an hour and 20 minutes) so I ended up quitting in spite of it being a job I liked and working with a few of my closest friends.

that's pretty ironic, usually on my commute the slow car in the left lane has either NY or PA plates, today was different, 2 were from IL and 1 was from Quebec. Even more irony, on the way home, sitting in traffic thanks to the totalled Saturn, I was next to a cute brunette in a little silver car, when her lane inched up I recognised the plate. She was the first of the 2 IL plated cars I was stuck behind.
BTW, I spend a god part of the trip in the left lane every day with the CC set at 80...

80 MPH that is.
