Default Replacing roof liner/headliner vinyl?? (Pictures Added!!)

Ok i really don't know what this piece is called, but i really need to replace it. It is the very thin vinyl which lines the roof. In the picture below, it is the brown material.

How does one go about replacing this? Should I just go to a fabric store and purchase thin auto vinyl (if such a thing even exists?) and cut it by hand while putting it up, or what? Has anyone successfully done this before? What does one use to stick the vinyl to the roof? Any help is appreciated! THanks.

EDIT: See below for pictures of the frame/interior with the headliner REMOVED!

Go to an auto trim shop, they'll have something very close. Fabric stores usually sell pretty crappy vinyl. Buy 3M trim(#77?) adhesive and apply to the back of the piece you cut. Allow at 2"-3" extra on edges that fold under trim gaskets, you can always cut the extra off. It helps to lay the cut pattern out in the sun for awhile to soften it up before glueing. It's really pretty easy. Good Luck

So that's what that looks like with the side trim removed. Ckathens, when you peel off the vinyl, can you please take some pictures of how the sunroof latch receiver (shown in your picture) attaches to the roof? Or rather what it attaches to under the vinyl.

Sure i'll try to remember to do that and post pics for you.

2Tight- Thanks for the tips... I'll be sure to take some pictures and document the procedure so others can benefit from my experience.

The glue you want to use is called 3M General Trim Adhesive. Not to be confused with Super Trim Adhesive. The part number is something like 0880 or 08088 - I forget, but I'm pretty sure its all 8's and 0's.

Good luck finding that thin vynil here. I just reupholstered my Lancia, which had the same thickness of vynil upholstering the interior, and none of the trim shops I went to had vynil thinner than what you could make seats out of. And yeah, hairdryer is your friend!

spray adhesive, both sides. apply one side and stretch to fit the otherend....repeat..repeat..

Take your time on final fitment. Test fit thrice and install once.

Favor number 2, how thick is the foam running along the front and rear edge of the roof opening?

TIA

Still trying to figure out a shop that actually sells the original fabric online.. Anyone have a link? Or a local place in the Bay Area which supplies it?
