Talking Dash crack Fix- perhaps the holy grail?

I got some specialized/ rubberized UV protective paint for the 931 rear mudflaps I'm putting on the 924S. (Not cheap..) This stuff is like a flexible rubberized paint, has a nice medium satin/ to moderate sheen black finish, and with a little Mothers' back to black- it shines up nicely.

My plan. Locate some sort of flexible filler for my small but deep dash cracks that will expand and contract the same coefficient as the existing vinyl- I had been thinking a plasticised heat resistant filler,(a bonus - the filler would leave a paintable surface!!) and spray it with this paint.

I can recreate the "leather grain" with some upholstery tricks I've learned.

HERE'S THE PROBLEM:
Anyone know if such a flexible filler exists for high UV, high/low temp (130F summer to -20f winter)? It needs to remain flexible and with a similar thermal expansion coefficient of the existing surface so the cracks dont reappear. I had thought of a silicone based product, but it's not a paintable surface.

Ideas? I will try this in a small unconspicous spot if I can find the right filler and take pics and document the process, as well in the long term, how it holds up. If this works I'll give away my black carpet dash cover.

(Sorry if I'm being a little ambiguous about the materials- as if this works I'll be kept busy in a cottage industry fixing Porsche dashes the rest of my life. )

some guys in the 928 board were reporting success using the fiberglass reinforced bondo as a dash filler, might wanna search there.

Y'know auto parts stores sell some stuff for fixing cracked dashes. Might want to try that first?

Another suggestion for a filler might be 3M P.R.O.-Fill EZ Sand - (name is something like that) - it is a two-part filler that body shops use to repair torn plastic bumper covers. I have used it for all kinds of things, but not dashboards yet. It is a filler and doesn't have much shear/tear strength, but it does stay flexible.

As for paint, autobody paint supply stores sell vynil paint specifically for things like dashboards and interior panels. You bring in a sample of the color you want and they mix it up for you - match the sheen, too. Usually costs over $40 for a quart.

Cheers,

at last a fix for our aged dashes!

I remember I used some Permatex "Dash Repair" kit from Auto Zone on my '84 only to complain of spending the money on something absolutely useless that fell apart on sun contact, not to mention looked like to total crap and discolored

Yeah; it's from that parts car you got your wheel from. I also have a breaker bar that belongs to you The dash has a huge split, so it's the perfect example for you to see how this'll work.
