How many torques can the girdle studs take?
Or rather, what is the recommended number of torques?
Would it be silly to torque em 5 times?
Are they stretch studs?
thanks,
Adrial

best thing is to follow the procedure in the manual. Not really har.
I think the main studs get a two stage process. 35 of so ft-lbs first stage and then 45 or 60 deg torque angle.
These details and the right numbers are in service manual. Also inculuded is the sequence.

I think he is saying, the studs have been torqued to spec, 4 times already. I know you have spend a load of money already, but I would lean toward replacing the studs.

David is correct. I would replace if em, but they're gonna be just as much of a PITA to remove as the head studs... which was no fun at all. I would try to leave the crank in while doing this, as all the rods/pistons are installed and I'm just about ready to torque the head down. Leaving the crank in would, I imagine, mean that I should avoid heat...with all the oil around the area.
I still find it funny that the Porsche factory manuals directions for installing the girdle are to basically "tap it over and then grind it till it fits". Thats some fine German engineering for sure...
