Default Thinking about the unthinkable...

This is not something that comes easy to me, but I’ve been considering selling my ’84 944. The car has been a complete joy and is in great condition, but I just can’t put the time and money into it to keep it that way. What makes this even tougher is that this car has a lot of sentimental value in it as well. My uncle was the original owner, who babied it for almost 20 years, and I purchased it from him last year after he had it re-sprayed and the motor rebuilt.

I’ve read a lot of negative comments about selling things on eBay, especially Porsches. I would like this car to go to someone who loves 944’s and most of all would take good care of it. Can someone give me some good recommendations for selling this great car? Should I sell here on Rennlist or should I go to one of the auction websites to sell this car? Thanks.

Check out the link to see the car.

Nice car, It's a shame to see that you are selling it though. As long as the price isn't rediculous I don't think you'll have that much trouble. I think selling on ebay isn't the best option.

Is there anything wrong with it mechanically? What about the interior?

Nothing wrong mechanically. The interior is the original and has wear, but not in terrible shape.

I have all service records as well. My uncle had it serviced at Brumos in JAX for all of its life. He even kept the original window sticker.

too bad you're selling. i wouldn't go the ebay route if it's really in nice condition. you may sell it quick but not at a high price. people generally won't pay as much for a car without a personal inspection first.

i would try the rennlist classifieds and the classifieds in excellence and panorama. it may take a little longer, but you are sure to get a member who respects these cars and will care for it, plus your selling price will probably be higher than on ebay

You may also try Auto Trader . I used Auto trader to sell a one owner '92 Chevy S-10 Tahoe with 92K, so I could buy my first 944.

I found my second car, the '87 NA, here locally by using Auto Trader, and I sold my '84 locally, again by using Auto Trader.

The listing fees may be a little steep ($45.00 as I recall), but I can't argue against the results.

As for using eBay, I bought my 951 via eBay, but I had a little inside info as to who the owner was, so I knew what to expect.

Thanks for the help gang. What do you think I should ask for this car? I paid 5K. This was with 1000 miles on the engine and before the 17" 993 Cup Wheels/Tires. There is only about 10,000 mi on the motor now and 3000 miles on the tires.
