I must admit, I have been jones'n for a 914 lately after taking a ride and driving in Dan's car. My best friend in the eighties had an orange one and being in Dan's car brought back a flood of fond memories. If I wasn't in so deep into my car and concerned about my current state of employment I would start looking for one. Boy, that certainly sounds like a lot of "if's", huh? Well, someday I'll get one. After things stabilize and I get the 944 to where I can say it is "done" and the way I want it to be, I will start looking for a 914.

OK, we were at an autocross (not the one last weekend where I grenaded my transmission into a million tiny metal shards, see, you do miss a lot in 2 weeks). I was talking to this Jeff character, who has this 924 that he is turning into a 924 CGT look-alike. I was going over some of the suspension mods that are possible, and explaining what I did with my car and my future plans for a motor swap, etc., and then he looks me in the eye and says "Why didn't you just buy a 911 and get it over with". Right there, in front of a bunch of other people. I really had no comeback for that. Now, of course, in hindsight I have plenty of good ones. But then, at that moment, I really wasn't prepared for that. I guess I could have stated the truth, which was "well, I'm pretty happy beating you by over 8 seconds at every autocross we are at, so I don't need a 911"............................
