The original is actually gold but fades over time and becomes silver looking, like yours. ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
There are some new fangled repros which actually are silver colored when new.

The real difference (both being gold) is that the later ones have the word "PORSCHE" at the top outlined in black, whereas the original ones had "PORSCHE" in solid black lettering. Also some of the other lines were 'sharpened' on the new ones.
I have the late one

I've noticed that the OE emblem was different for the 944 cars than for the 911 cars of the same vintage. The rearing horse was much more refined in the 911 emblems.

The new 996 emblems in silver also do not "fit" per se. They dont lay flat. Hell, just have the holes filled and go without.

I pick option "c".
Buy a nice crest decal and install that. Lighter, cheap, and unlikely to be pried off by some 10 year old on a dare from his cousin Billy (who just got a buzz from huffing some gold spraypaint fumes.)

go with the gold is my opinion.....my car is black and I have cold centered cookie cutters so after my new paint I did the rear "944" badge in gold and the lettering above the rear bumber in gold and the gold emblem on the front looks **** to me......
