Question Help Seat Rail Bent

Just had a seat shipped to me and the seat rail where it attaches to the car is bent a little from shipping and it will not slide. Anybody have any advice? Thinking about trying to bend it back any tricks?

Thanks in advance

Depends how it's bent. A press would be nice, or at least a vice. Do you have either? If not, take it to someone who does, or return it to the guy who sold it to you.

Well, you're not going to lose anything by trying to straighten it. And it's not going to move properly while it's bent.

Because it's the driver's side with the electrics and all, you're looking at a fairly expensive piece of hardware.

Have you tried bolting it in the car and see if the bolt will draw it straight -- maybe a small block of wood under the bend between the rail and the car floor and slowly tighten the bolt.

This is a later seat into an early chassis? If so you have to remove the seat belt holder and cut the mounting bracket off of the seat. You can NOT use the seat mounted seat belt latch. You have to use the seat belt anchor that is in the chassis tunnel.

As to straightening; just stick a pipe over it and bend it back till it slides.

Did you get the wire harness that goes to the dash? I had to run the electrics on the later seats I put in mine till I got a possition I liked. Then disconnected them. Easier to bolt in with the seat raised all the way.

Took off the seat belt holder off and put passenger seat in without cutting anything off. Did i do something wrong? I love the pipe idea.

Didn't get any wiring harness but I found someone who is willing to sell one. Hard to hook up?

Thanks

I found that when I installed the seat belt latch back on the tunnel it hit the bracket on the later seat. That's why I cut mine off.

Depending on what electrics the seat has will depend on where you hook up the harness. I would have to look at the schematics again but I think there is only two power circuits to the seat. One for the electric motors and one for the heater (if it has one). I would suggest the power window circuit. You can intercept the output of the power window relay under the dash (above the gas pedal).
