Default How many MPG do you guys get on your 944s?

I have an '89 944 and I used to get 400 miles on a tank of gas. However, the car used to sputter when started cold, so a mechanic changed the idle adjustment which cured the rough start but gave made the car use more fuel (as the mechanic predicted). Initially I could go about 350 miles on a full tank of gas but now I only seem to get about 300 miles on a tank. How far can you guys go on a full tank?

I regularly squeak 550 odometer miles out of a tank in my 85.5 NA. Mostly highway, obviously. But my speedo/odo read short a bit, mostly due to the 225/50/15s, so its probably more like 515-525 miles per tank, usually 16.5-17 gallons to the top. Still hovering around that wonderful "30" mpg!

Tony and Simon, your cars should have the larger 21 gallon tank. They went to the larger tank in 1985.5.

I get 25 mpg from my 84 944 in mostly daily driver duty. 18 miles each way from work. That usally runs about 330 per tank.

I get about 400 miles on a tank. Usually I get about 22 miles per gallon. I meant to see what I got on the 944fest trip but forgot. One week when I did alot of highway driving I ended yp getting about 27 mpg....

yea we have the larger tank, but I don't run it dry. I guess I usually get around 22mpg with mixed highway/city driving. I'm sure the car could be tuned more...

I just measured mine last week for the first time. This is commuting to work on the highway at 80mph ( coppers ) with a couple of days using the air conditioner. In between was somewhat spirited driving. Result = 30 mpg.

I don't speed (that much) but I get terrible mileage, not anywhere near 28 or 30 y'all are reporting. Does anyone have a systematic approach to addressing this? Would love to improve my mileage.

I would try replacing air filter, fuel filter, and o2 sensor.

I would say i could get like 350-400 miles per tank as i usually fill up at around 300-340 miles with a little under a 1/4 of a tank left. This is with mixed town and highway driving usually town durring week and Highway on the weekends. my calculatiojns give me an average mpg of about 24-30mpg on avarage depending on how much highway driving i do.

When i drve up to school in ithaca NY which is 196 miles i uses about a half of tank and i average about 72 mph.
